I'm off to egypt next month to work for mark warner for 3 months. I want to take some photography stuff with me. Most probably be taking this:

- Pentax K10d + kit lens
- Tamron 70-300 lens (cheap: £120 new)
- ebay special £20 nifty fifty.
- Aquapack waterproof casing for SLR
- Laptop (worth £1000 four years ago wehn bought...)

i will be using this stuff in the water at times (in the casing of course) and also for people shots on the land.

Whats the best insurance to get to cover my gear for theft and like when i'm out there?

Many thanks
Charlie

You are probably better off going to a specialist insurer such as Photogaurd. Shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg if the kits for Amateur use.

I'd look at insuring the laptop for what a similar machine would cost today. ( probably get better spec at 1/4 price).

I have mine on my household insurance and that covers 60days out of country.

It's worth checking your household contents insurance. My kit is worth around £5k in totla and they assured me that as long as no individual item cost over £1k it was covered although I don't think they said how many days a year out of the country.

Household insurance for me - Norwich Union gives me cover on about £8k's worth of stuff.. I'm paying about £25 a month (which has just gone up as I had a bike nicked) - before that it was about £18 a month, full contents not just camera gear.

I use Photoguard to cover for UK and overseas travel. Never had to claim but once your gear gets above a certain limit it's silly not to. I wonder if your stuff is worth insuring ... I'd take a chance on that kinda value. You can do a quote at Photoguard and see the cost and any cash you'd need to pay out yourself if there was a claim.

Im with Photoguard....I have option covering UK,EU and 30 days worldwide... so my questions is : do I have to tell them every time I go abroad from UK ? I'm still waiting for paperwork from them, but I havent found anything regarding this in all their forms and documents on their web page...any ideas ?
Thx
