I've just ordered a ring-flash for my nice Canon, Cost £55. I've always wanted a ring-flash but they were soo expensive. Took me ages to save up for my Olympus OM1n which came in at £125 in 1980 
The macro flashes then were twice the price of my camera!
In the day the OM1n was the smallest, lightest SLR, it's twice the weight of my Canon!
I think it's a carry over too that I generally shoot at 100 to 400 iso, cause I was so used to putting in a film at those iso's and if you want to change iso, then you buy a new film.
