Just came across what appears to be a new version of the V500, which I thought might be of interest to some. See http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/Product.do?sku=B11B210201#1

In terms of specs it seems almost identical to the old V500, the main difference I can see being that the medium format film holder is longer, which would be pretty useful.

I wonder whether they'll be updating the V700/V750 soon?

I think I noticed a press release just before buying my V.500, but as you say the specs did not seem much better (if any), and the price was much higher.

However, I have found the V.500 120 film holders to be a complete PITA in all 3 formats I've scanned (6*6, 645, 6*9). I wonder if V.550 film holders would work on a V.500?

As far as I know Epson are not actually manufacturing the v500 anymore and have replaced it with the near identical V600. All the V500's being sold are leftover stock and will be sold until depleted.

Looking at that new V550 and the V600 I am struggling to see any difference in the specs!

I was wondering the same thing. It would be useful to be able to preview two 6x7 negatives at once. If you are looking for an alternative holder, I've read some good things about the Lomo Digitaliza (there are 35mm and 120 versions).

I hadn't thought of that - they do look very similar!

The only real difference that I can see is the different body shape (and the ~$30 price difference!) There again the V600 is just a V500 with a different body shell.
