Can anybody help me with the following problem please? -

I am trying to print an image which is colour but due to its winter setting is almost monochrome. However when I print it there is a very distinct dark green tint which is not present in the digital file of this photograph.

A chap at my camera club always said he had this green cast problem on monochrome prints from the same printer, which he never managed to resolve.

I have read that you can solve this problem by printing in greyscale but I am reluctant to do this as I don't want a totally monchrome print due to the early morning sun in the photo.

Does anybody know another solution please?

I am using Ilford Galerie Classic Pearl paper with the correct paper profile which I downloaded.

because you only have one black. B&W on your printer is made from colour so they printer struggles to get a B&W without a cast.

ilford papers do tend to have a green or magenta cast.

you are printing a colour image

how many colour inks in the printer...i will google it..erm..6 including black

have you checked the ink levels and cleaned heads etc...

can you get a 6x4 done at boots/other..and see if the same result occurs

Hi Whiters, Firstly,If you want a good B+W image then please follow this link by Zone 8 (Brian) at dpreview he has done a lot of testing with the 1400 and has found that settings such as using plain paper etc can create a great B+W image

Secondly, if you read the 1400 review at photo -i
http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Epson 1400/Page_1.html
he mentions a magenta cast and how to get rid of it and may help you in some ways to solve your problem, for example when you go into the advanced page in printing you can alter +/- the colours to eliminate colour casts.
Hope this helps
Dave

Print a strip of black on plain paper, then put one end in some water. Watch what colour bleeds up the paper. I'd put money on it not being black.

My R300 on dye inks is purple, on my 2000p using pigments comes out green.

If you want true blacks you need to go to something like a 2880 to get true blacks. Even then you have to change carts to get a true black.

With the R2400/2880 you have 4 black inks. A Photo Black/Gloss, a Photo Black/Matt, a Light Black and a Light Light Black. You only need to change your Photo Black depending on your paper choice (Gloss or Matt). Personally I prefer to print either on Gloss or Oyster paper so I never swap inks.

My 2400 is calibrated for Permajet inks and paper, which as a result prints perfect monochrome prints everytime (without casts).

If you are serious about your monochrome work, switching to printer with at least 3 black inks is a must.
