Epson R3880 ABW Help

I am days away from purchasing a new Epson R3880 to replace my R2880 printer but there are just a couple of areas that I can't seem to get answers. I have spoken with Epson online help but to be honest, they didn't appear to know what o was talking about.

My Computer is an Apple iMac 27 running Lion

Question:
I will be printing on Hahnemuhle Papers, both Baryta and possible the William Turner for Matt prints but I just cannot get head around how to set the printer options in Photoshop or Lightroom to use the ABW Driver.

The part that is confusing me is "Where or how do I tell the ABW Driver what profile to use" How does it know that I am printing on Hahnemuhle Baryta for example.

I have read about RIP software like ImagePrint but at £700 this is nearly as much as the printer. Although with ImagePrint, you can choose the paper you are printing to from within the program.

In the first print dialogue window choose photoshop manages colour then choose the profile from the drop down list for the Hahnemuhle paper.

In the print settings it will show you the media type, choose whatever media from the list, the Mode settings should be available from Hahnemuhle but is probably Automatic (Epson Standard sRGB).

If all is well save the profile in the print settings for next time.
 
in order to use the ABW you have to switch off colour mangement which you can't do in CS5 or lightroom.

What you can do is make a linear profile with QTR to use with ABW.

best using the standard profile for the paper

There is some unusual advice in this thread.

AWB is run from the printer dialogue, so turn OFF Photoshop manages colour. Within the AWB dialogue there are various settings which can be used to tweak the output.

There should be instructions/guidance on the Hahnemühle website as to the appropriate Epson paper to be selected within the printer dialogue box when using their papers.

Whilst there is no need for a profile of any description when using AWB, if you wish, you can download various profiles from Eric Chan's excellent website (and then turn ON Photoshop manages colour obviously). This website is worth a look anyway for the sound, sensible information it gives. (In case you didn't know, Eric is one of the key Adobe engineers working on ACR and Lightroom.)
