Perhaps this should be in the Rant forum, but I'm really cheesed off with my Epson printer (an R800). I haven't done any colour printing for weeks/months and now it tells me two colour cartridges are empty!

Next thing will be when I do want to do some colour work and the nozzles will be blocked and I'll have to use vast amounts more ink to bl**dy well clean them, and that won't work either so I'll have to buy a new printer ..... :bang::bang:

Are Canons (or anything else) any better in this respect?

epson are notoriously bad for that.

I had a c66 used it about a dozen times, then didnt use it for about 6 months. when I came to it again, nozzles were dirty, and no matter how much cleaning, no joy, even bought some of those cleaning fluids, no joy. ended up throwing it.

Now I have a R285 and am trying my best to be disciplined in printing at least one A4 photo a week to make sure it stays used.

cannons are actually much better, becasuse (dependant on the model) the print heads come as part of the ink carts, so if the nozzle / head drys up, you just replace the cart.

BUT cannons (all the ones i have dealt with) arnt as good printers (quality/ colour) and have their own problems - often it seems, the paper detector sensor dies very easily

I didnt use my R800 for near a year and it was fine when I used it again.

Ignore those warnings about ink level until you see a visible degredation in the print quality, I find they aren't accurate and I can print a great many pages before the actual cartridge is empty.

...that said I bought a magenta for mine from PC world at the weekend, 15 squid!

Epson :bang::bang::bang:

I've got a R200 & when it runs out off ANY colour it refuses to print at all, this means I've got to go out and buy a colour cartridge even if I'm printing B & W text :cuckoo:

It does do excellent photo printing though :thumbs:

It wasn't a warning, it was an absolute bl**dy refusal to print anything else:annoyed:

i work with computers a lot and when people ask me to fix their printers i flat out refuse because they are spawn of satan.

computers you see understand the two muscle modes i have "gently gently softly softly" and "hand of death" however whichever i use on printers it always ends up messy.

so don't worry i also feel your rage. :)

I have an R800 too and I know exactly what you mean, it's a complete PITA. However, I have found that by just ensuring I print *something* every few days it seems to keep itself pretty clear. Not ideal but better than having to ditch cartridges and using gallons of ink with print cleaning cycles I guess
