Hi all

I was looking to get some Matt paper to try, I normally print everything on heavy gloss, my normal supplier only Stocks Epson paper in Matt and have two types listed, Heavy Weight Matt and Archival Matt.

I was going to order the Archival as its a heavier paper and "Archival" but noticed a comment that it's only suitable for pigment inks.

I did a quick check on Epsons site and they don't mention that it's only for pigment ink printers, so is it correct that it's not suitable for dye ink printers.

Thanks for any help with this

Paul

There can be significant differences in papers designed for pigment inks and dye inks. (Obviously ) Whilst you can use dye inks there may be problems, you may get excessive bleed or that they may not dry quickly enough and smear. If a paper has specifically designed for pigment inks it's going to give it's optimum results with this sort of ink .

Odd that they don't mention this on the Epson site though, unless it is and I couldn't find it ;)

anyone got any recommendations for a good heavy Matt paper that is easily available in the UK.

Any links appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Your right it's not on the Epson site. In fact it makes no mention of suitability of inks except it gives the compatible printers that's all. I had to go to the WEX site to get the confirmation of pigment ink details on the paper .

You might want to have a look at the range of Permajet papers, as they seem to do a few matte papers around the 240 gsm . The others I found from other manufacturers are a lot heavier. I believe the permajet are both pigment and dye compatible , but best to check . Here's a link

I tend to use Canson paper or Ilford Gold silk ( similar product) but these are a lot heavier and I'm not sure if they are dye compatible.

Just a quick update

I contacted Epson support over this and they actually confirmed that their Archival Matt paper is compatible with the dye inks used in the Epson 1500w and could not understand why the supplier in question would claim its for pigment printers only.

I will have to buy a box of A4 and give it a go before buying the A3 I normally use.

Will update when I get some results.
