Yes
Does anyone have one of these printers and only use the PK ink for printing on all media types.
If so, I presume you are setting the media type in the printer driver to say, glossy, even though you may be using a matte paper??
How do you ensure the MK ink cartridge never clogs etc, do you run monthly nozzle checks by switching over inks or do you carry out some other maintenance tasks.
Thanks
Dave

I've had my 3800 about 4 years I think, an the MK cart is still full and ready to go.

I've not used it yet because I don't use matte papers. I'm sure though it will work ok if needed.

I don't use the mk black at all and never had a problem with Matt papers. you can't do it the other way round though

So would you mind explaining what you do (in simple terms please) do you over ride the media setting to just print PK even though its a matte paper and then do you do any nozzle checks for the MK ink or just let it sit idle until you decide to print a matte paper.
Kelvin - just out of interest how do you know it is ready to go after 4 years without a nozzle check??
Ross - do you do as I mentioned above use a glossy paper media setting for matte papers
I have read where if you do this you may have to go into the ink laying down box(not the right term ) and reduce this by -5%
Appreciate your help on this one as the 3880 is on its way and I don't want to use too much ink and fill the maintenance tank overnight!!!
Thanks for your kind help
Dave

I can use any of the paper settings with my current R2400 Epson software. the matt papers are not disabled with PK is installed

so if I wanted to print on say Epson premium matt I could just choose that setting in the Epson GUI

Please excuse my ignorance but are you saying that you can print on matte by just using the PK ink without the print driver forcing you to the MK ink??
What are you doing to maintain the MK ink....any nozzle checks etc
Thanks
Dave

don't care about the MK black lol I've got an R2400 not a 3000/3880. I profiled and used PK for the matt papers that I own. MK is never plugged into my printer.

I have the 3000 but don't use the mat as mostly I print on luster and pearl papers. But the mat uses the same print head as the photo black so when you want to use it it does a flush of the pipes and your ready to go with no worries about the head ever blocking. Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul, my main concern is that if you don't use the MK ink (in the 3000 or 3880 or any other printer where PK and MK cartridges are both installed) then over time I presume the MK ink will clog so do you need to do a monthly nozzle check on the MK ink or some other maintenance task ie: take out the MK cartridge and give it a good shake every so often!!
Thanks
Dave

I don't think you will have a problem as both black cartridges use the same pipe to the print head, when you choose to use the matt ink the printer does a flushing cycle to purge the pk black and charge the pipe with the matt black. The downside is this wastes about 3ml of pk black and about 2ml when you change back.
I really don't think you will have any problems at all.

I have an Epson 3000 and usually print to gloss/semi gloss media using the PK cart. On the occassions that I have switched to using Matt papers there have been no issues at all (other than annoying ink wastage during the flushing cycle). I haven't found any need for nozzle checks or any other maintenance tasks in the 19 months or so I've had the printer.

Thanks Paul and Stuart very helpful information
Cheers
Dave

take out the MK cartridge and give it a good shake every so often!! [/QUOTE said:
I include the MK cartridge when I do a monthly shake up of the other cartridges.

This is always recommended when using pigment inks.
