Can't get eos utility to load which is a stress because I shoot more or less everything tethered. It just suddenly won't load up, I plug in the usb, turn on the camera, the red light flashes a lot and that's about it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no joy. Is there any way I could have buggered this up 'in camera' by messing with settings etc? I am good at that:naughty:

Anyone been here before? any ideas most welcome

Plug your camera in then my computer, browse to the camera drive, look for the images, then right click on one, open with browse for EOS Utility, then check always use this program usually works for me, it should the always open with it then,

Sometimes when I plug my wifes camera in I have to do that to reset it

Thanks Dave, it still won't load???? I unplugged the camera and even then it won't load up.

Might be the USB or the lead.

Try it on any other USB's on the PC.

If not, then scrounge a loan of another lead.

Just did that with the shorter lead that came with the camera, now the red light just blinks once and then zilcherooney!

It's the mighty 1000d Dave, I don't recall seeing a download button though.

Mike it cant be the usb if Steve can see it as a drive

Hi Dave, never seen that Steve can see it as a drive?

Unless you're assuming that from your instructions?

Steve, can you read your card via a card-reader OK?

Or shoot some more pics on a different card and try EOS again?

Will do that now Mike. The thing is though, the eos utility screen won't even come up let alone the tethered screen!

Well, now DPP won't load either????? this is very weird. I tried to load the eos utility from DPP which didn't work, now DPP has stopped working. I can't even get DPP to load from zoombrowser. I'll try turning everything off and start again, see if that does anything??

Its got a blue Icon on it I think its page 147/148 in your user manual press the button think its the WB/Print/ share button it mention if utility doesnt open on page 147 think, it should when you press the button then you can check out the settings

Thank F$%# for that, I got it working again. Tried the camera on my vista machine and all worked spot on. Went back to XP machine and did a reinstall of eos and then went to canon site for latest update. BINGO.

I have not the remotest idea what happened there but all is okay now.

Thanks for your time Dave and Mike, much appreciated.

Problem is back!

It works okay on my vista machine so I don't think there is a problem with the camera. It's when I turn on the camera on my XP machine, it seems that it's just not communicating with with the pc. I've uninstalled and reinstalled about five times, used every permutation of usb combination's, all no good. I did get it to work briefly then it stopped as if something overrode it.
The problem seems to be in the pc

What would stop the eos utility software from loading it's screen?
What would stop the tethered screen from loading?

HELLLLPPP.

I have literally just resolved this (I hope) I had to remove everything eos/canon from my system, brave the registry for the first time, remove anything to do with any camera software. Then I reloaded everything and updated it then last of all the eos utility and update.

It works thank ****!

Apparently it can happen if you update something with the camera plugged into the comp, it gives the usb drives a rogering.

That's taken four days to sort out and I think it has something to do with uninstalling the eos utility but still not removing it from the comp completely, I had a right game getting rid of it and only managed it after doing the above.

My brain hurts.
