Yes
Lets' just suppose this camera exists, whether it does or not isn't important. If you were given one feature to improve on the 5D, and one only, which would it be. There are several choices, increase the resolution or MP size; increase the dynamic range; increase the frame rate; put a better quality screen on the back of the camera; live view; add a built in flash and presumably many others. Which one is the most important to you??

For me, it would be LCD screen resolution, but I'm being greedy. I want them all:woot:

If I wanted to improve on the camera I buy the 1DS MkIII.

If I wanted to improve on the camera I buy the 1DS MkIII.

Or even a secondhand 1DsMkII which have the weathersealing and 45pt. AF I'd like and probably cost the same as a new upgraded 5D.

I guess the only thing I'd really like to see on a 5D upgrade would 45pt. AF like the classic EOS 3 :)

a button the would disable all nikon camera's within 100metres for 30 seconds....

but really - put a shutter button in the pro position - on the bottom of the camera such as 1d 1ds d2 d3 etc

I've got both the 5D and a 1Ds MkII so I've got a pro level camera to compare it to.

Hence if there was one thing that I would like to see on a 5D MkII would be improved autofocus. It would make it a Ds "lite"

You can always add a grip or a flash so it's the integral functionality that I'd like to see improved. The frame rate is still Ok when you consider the uses the 5D is designed for but the autofocus could use speeding up.

For me the only change would be to add the lens micro-adjustments like the 1DIII.

Sorted

Bob

Dynamic range please! That or incredible high ISO performance (better than the D3).

Looking at the majority of PP I do on my images it is usually related to shadows/highlight detail. Increase dynamic range would mean that I would have to do less/none of this processing!

Direct Print Button.

Oh wait - I would actually like to see 1D series af.

:)

I'm going to be boring and opt for a greater resolution, somewhere near 17MP. I mostly photograph travel and landscapes so more detail is what I seek, more importantly, 17MP is close to the 50MB file size that libraries demand....no more upsizing images.
As for greater dynamic range, there are work arounds for this, blending files in Photoshop, ND Grad's, and HDR when it is improved upon and doesn't look so ugly.

Realistically,
the 5D is a great camera, so the modifications/new features I would like see on the upcoming upgrade would be an impressive ISO capability coupled with a fair RRP, not something ridiculous like £2000+, I really think that it should be around the same regions as the current 5D = £1400/£1299 ish.

If it's £2000+ then just buy a 1DmkIII!

If it was exactly the same as the current 5D, but with focussing that didn't just work properly on the centre point, I'd buy two tomorrow.

One of those 'self cleaning' sensors that actually work without any flaws

A talent button

i'd chuck my 5d in for the new one then

I'm guessing everyone's seen this image of the new 5D ?

You mean the new 1D, 1Ds, 40D, 30D, 20D, whatever is coming out next? That photo is wheeled out every few months :p As for 1 feature, ISO like the D700 but I couldn't buy it if it just had that.

Like it :naughty:

But it doesn't have a coffee button though?

Oh, no, that's on the front where the DOF preview used to be ;)

I'm happy with the 5D as it is.

But I'm going to go with 4 things to improve.

Better autofocusing (i.e. something similar to the 1d's incredible autofocusing)
More frames per second
Bigger screen. 2.5" just seems SO small.
Higher resolution. 17mp seems good.

canon30d.jpg

That screen is tiny!

One feature...hmmmm, I love my 5D but I guess I'd improve the noise handling to beat the level of the new Nikon D3 which looks amazing. Other wants are bigger dynamic range, more and wider separated AF points. I also think the feel of the shutter button on my 30d is a bit more positive than my 5D. Maybe its just because I got used to it first but my 30D feels a bit more responsive.

What's wrong with the AF?
hope you have some spare time CLICK

also goes on to mention the 40d in there as well

having worked with pool cameras that experence the issues Rob mentions its more that slightly annoying (and costly) when a £2000 camera cant take sharp photos in good light

but anyway thats not up for discussion here as for the new 5d who knows well just have to wait and see what the canon god's decided

Hey ho, swings and roundabouts :)

He said one feature. Swings or roundabouts, you can't have both :p I forgot about the 1Dm3 AF issue. Don't really follow things that closely. Would be annoying to have dodgy AF.

yep would hate to see the Af go the way of the 40d and the mkIII

There's focus problems on the 40D ?

Please let it be true, I can use it as an excuse

Basically, I'd like the 5D replacement to be a "professional" 40D (without the pop up flash and the direct print buttons) with full frame and weather protection, and maybe a few more pixels.

Not that hard really.

Apprently so third question from the bottom CLICK

(if you cant find it in the document hit ctrl and f and paste in
Q. Would switching to the EOS 40D for sports also be a decent workaround, perhaps until Canon has the autofocus problems in their 1-series line completely sorted out?
) thats the section that discuses the 40d

I don't think the 40D is broken, it just doesn't have the 1D level of autofocus, but then you wouldn't really expect it from a camera that costs 1/5th of the price.

And the 1D III is fixed now and even broken ones outperform the D3 in the AF stakes so i don't know what everyone is worrying about.

If I had one wave of a magic wand over my 5D, I think I'd like better high ISO performance. Not that it's bad but the bar has moved further on this than anything else since the 5 was launched.

The AF is fairly woeful but personally I don't often use it so I can't say as I'm too bothered.

One thing that I do always notice with discussions where the topic of an upgrade to 5 comes up. All the things that people say they want from it are already available in one or more forms.

I went back to mine after a lot of shooting on my Mamiya today and was quite surprised at how pleasant it felt to use it again. T'is a good little camera as it is and I hope Canon don't ruin it in it's next guise.
