So, you know how it is, you see a camera that "needs a repair" and think "OK, I'll go a fiver" and you forget about it.

Two days later you won it, it arrives, it's an EOS 5 and it has the command wheel of death - or a helplessly-spinning no-contact command wheel. Top off, two small holes drilled and filled with two small screws, one totally sh*gged spring replaced with a small piece of silicon, one perfect EOS 5 :D

Arthur - having a smug git day :D

AMAZING

good job :p

I very gently took apart a shagged lens to see how it works and destroyed the electronics getting the mount off :bang:

David, Arthur: you're both mad...why have you been "shagging" camera equipment :P

Defo mad, I just bought a grip for it and I already got rid of most of my Canon kit when I went over to Minolta! Only got the Elan and a couple of lenses but hey - can't sell the 5 without feeling a bit mercenary so it'll have to stay awhile :D

Oh yeah, still got the Nikons as well :naughty:

The one I had came with the same problem - I used a section of spring from a disposable lighter (the one that presses the flint against the striker wheel), but otherwise repair was same. Pity the electricals gave up the ghost 6 films later, but hey-ho

Yup - it's a relatively easy repair, surprisingly few people will try it though. Now it appears you gotta be a smoker to fix it! I had the fuel pipe from the toy airyplanes knocking about so I got lucky

not me guv - lighter was from my camping kit - not actually a lighter - just the striker mechanism pulled out of the body - enough to light the gas stove :) Lighter and more reliable than a box of matches, and cheaper than a peitzo ignition stove (if you scrounge the empty disposable lighter from someone
