Hi all

Charged my canon battery up last night for the umpteenth time. Charger light turned green, refitted battery to camera, dead as a dodo, no power nothing.:(

Tried to charge battery again, went green light in about 2 minutes, same result. Had the camera probably just over a year, bought from Amazon.

Anyone any idea what may have broken?

Got a family wedding in 2 weeks which is now looking decidedly dodgy camera wise.

Thanks.

Could be the battery or the charger. Just because green light is on it doesn't definitely mean it's charged. Take camera to your local camera shop and ask them to try it with one of their batteries.

Does the date / time need resetting?
If it's lost the date and time settings due to not having enough charge for a while it won't let you do anything else until you reset them.

A bit of a shot in the dark, particularly as you say there's no power whatsoever but it may be worth ruling out the simple things first

Will take it to a camera shop at the weekend, thanks. Wonder if I can get a battery under warranty from Amazon/Canon if it is dud. Had it more than a year now though, even so, pretty rubbish life if its died already surely.

Thanks Sarah, unable to check times or anything as its just a dead brick. No Lcd screen or viewfinder, nothing. Perhaps if I plug it into the PC something might happen.

Most probably the battery compartment door! Have a fiddle with it! If the camera thinks the door's open it won't power up.

Took it to the shop today, the kiddie fixed it in about 10 seconds. The little door over the memory card slot was slightly open. So you werent far off Splog!

Phew, all fixed and gratis as well. Happy chappy! :D

The 7D looked nice though...

On my 50D (and I believe most other Canons) the date/time is maintained by a seperate battery, much smaller than the main one. This may need replacing if you are having these problems.

Thank you so much! I've not powered up this camera for a few years. Turns our the microswitch was sticky
