EOS 400D telephoto lens help

I have a budget of about £600 and looking to get a telephoto lens, I have been taking pictures at my sailing club but can get the long shots, any suggestions would be welcome for the best by...
 
Firstly hello and welcome :wave:

If you can stretch a bit the canon 100-400mm L can be had for around £800 with £75 cashback:shrug:
 
I think a 2nd hand EF100-400L lens should be in reach for that sort of cash
 
You could get a Canon 300mm f4 prime for not much over £600
 
thanx guys, if it means I get quality, as lets face it I will be using it alot... then i dont mind paying more...

Since i have be taking fotos on a more professional level, (been doing it as a hobby/business related for 10 years) I realised I couldn't get away with the kit i had all the time... Off to oz soon so would like my kit to be just so befoer I leave...

The cashback deals on the canon run out on the 30th June 2008 dont they?

any thoughts on this... Sigma Lens,Canon 170-500mm F5-6.3

just thinking zoom telephoto... anything that will bring that yatch close and clearer... lol
 
infact you can see what i have and then that may enlighten you to what i need....

18-55mm (came with the camera)
70-300mm macro (excelent for my flowers and insects)
10-20mm wide (group shots and boats right across the resavoir)
55-200mm (portrait lens)

this is why i feel i need something with a zoom/telephoto

Hope that helps you guys help me ... I dont mind ebay have taken a look at kerso unfotunatley he has nothing close to what you guys have suggested so far....

I have the 120 - 400 Sigma and all I can say is WOW what a lens.

I would recommend either of them. Just beware that they are a heavy lens (1.75kg and 1.85kg for the 400 and 500mm respectively!!!!!!)

don't just go by his site. PM or mail him with your lens request and he will give you a price... not everything he stocks is on the Ebay shop. Also he tends to give cheaper prices outside of eBay.
 
does anyone ever buy on ebay??? I have seen some len's from the USA i always worry with imports...
 
have got in touch with Kerso will let you guys know... thanx again for the help.... just managed to book another wedding so maybe I can use it !!!
 
still totally confussed, the 170-500mm is only £300 on ebay so well in my budget and sigma are good but i just need to be sure that it will zoom enough... my jessops has no stock so i cant even test lenses to make sure i am getting the right one...

400mm is better zoom that 300mm but costs £200 more being its canon o god I am confussed!!!

Am gonna be taking shots of kangaroos in oz and that i know i need a longer lens... making such an expensive purchase i dont want to get it wrong...
