Hello, I currently use the EOS 1000D. I am new to photography however I love it and the things you can do with photo's. Im going to Uni soon however as a side job/hobby I would like to fully get into Photography but will my 1000d be fine. I know lenses are the most important but with the 1000D will I be able to gain great shots.

Thanks

Of course. You can get great photographs with any camera.

it's good enough even for a pro, but there are reasons why they would use 5d or 1d instead :p

When should I look at getting a 5D or 1D or generally upgrading would you recommended.

You will know when to upgrade, as you will have learnt all the advanced methods and as a result will be aware of the limitations of your camera and how it's holding you back. No point before then :)

I started off with a 1000D, took some cracking shots. Get yourself a Nifty Fifty and have fun!!

It is a great camera, and for the money, I don't think you can go wrong.

well, 99% of people who like photography tend to buy new and better stuff when they want a new toy, the left over of 1% actually needs the 5d or 1d etc. the harsh reality is that a pro can take a 10quid film camera and produce an award winning pics.

Yeh, I totally agree with that. I myself have been taking photos well on and off since a young age. When I first touched a digital well I was amazed, then when I got my hands on a DSLR well. Lets just say I had to get one to fore fill my passion for photography please add me on Flikr I would like advise and help on my skills with the 1000D if that is ok.

stay here ! it's a far more better place than flickr !

had a look - liked the landscape + sheeps , except that the biggest one feels like is draging the picture down.

Composition - read about it, forget about the equipment stuff. any working camera can take a good picture.

+ join the 25th of jan. meet in Leeds, we're doing night shots.

but all in all - the pics seem promising :)

Ok, my two cents quickly:

A body will never really stop you taking amazing photographs on it's own as long as you pair it with decent glass, with the 50mm 1.8 easily falling into that category. (assuming we're talking interchangeable lenses and fairly recent cameras here)

Where a body limit you will be what shots you can get at all - the 1000D will kill off any hopes of sports or action photography due to its lethargic 1.5fps rate, and any real hope of low light photography due to its poor ISO performance, as well as any adverse weather condition shooting as it is a cheap camera and built as such.

You've got 10.1 megapixels to play with - unless you're blowing it up really large, the main difference will be the glass focusing the light into each one - and if the glass is good enough to be focusing tighter than those individual pixels then you should move up.

A more natural progression from the 1000D might be a 60D or a 7D - the 5D and 1D both require serious investments in both the body and glass to get the most out of them :)

My first camera was the 1000D and I used it for anything and everything for a solid 18 months. It produce amazing shots with Good glass attached.
It was only recently that I felt the camera was limiting my skills, thus I upgraded to a 50D

In all you will be surprised at What the baby Canon dslr can do when pushed!

I would just like to butt in here if I may. Being very new to this I also purchased the 1000D (1 for me and 1 for the wife). I totally understand that an upgrade will be needed in time but Manualfocus-g brought out a very good point:

I have started to see that Ksanti is also correct with regards to the ISO and shutter speed.

But, when all is said and done, I am currently happy. I am taking (what I think) some nice shots and enjoying every minute (obviously not to the standard of the great photos on here but I will get their in the end).

Thanks again all :)

:)

Apologies for the hijack and the fact that this is my first post but the above comment has somewhat worried me.

Basically, Im just about to invest in my first DSLR and am leaning heavily toward the 1000d. As such, the camera will predominantly be used for surfing compositions ........ Am I looking at completely the wrong camera so, bearing in mind that Im a complete noob??
