No
Well the idea has been mooted. Can't see the point myself. What do you think?

Think it is a waste of time and money

Stick with God Save The Queen

God Save The Queen for when GB or UK is being represented, otherwise if it is just England then either Land of Hope and Glory or Jerusalem.

I can't see that it matters either way TBH,
but if we do get a new one, something a little more lively rather than the dirge we have now would be good

#Why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends#

Nice opportunity for a reality TV show. X-Factor: The National Anthem. But no votes from Wales, Scotland and Northern-Ireland please....Perhaps Gerry Halliwell-Murdoch can lead on it...

I reckon it'll change within 30 years. In fact, I'd put money on it... ;)

Don't you think there is enough crap on the TV as it is?
:p

Within 15. :D

I was looking at the last Queen Elizabeth and wondering how far medicine has come in the intervening years.

Not as far as to see her to 119!! :-)

Anything that does not have kings, queens or gods mentioned (and preferably does not sound like the current funeral music) will be an improvement.
Whilst at it, dream up something else for Scotland that does not go referring back to some rubbish 700 years ago.

I think Wales has got the best anthem although I must admit I don't have clue what the Irish use.

Same anthem with just the word Queen changed to King
Well yes I get that....but bless her, she ain't living 30 more years!

I think..... If it's representative of just the Irish Republic, it's "The Soldier's Song" ("Amhrán na bhFiann"). However, the Irish Rugby team, being made up of players from the North & South, also uses "Ireland's Call" - specially written for the purpose.

You do know Gerry married Christian Horner don't you? It was Jerry who married Murdoch. ;)

Jerry Hall is engaged to Murdoch, they are not married yet

Cool. I topic I'm happily be corrected on as it clearly demonstrates I don't actually follow it all :)

Seriously, when I was a young boy this performance and dress made a real impression on me....

I still like it, perhaps one of the unconscious reasons I ended up here...

My vote would go for Land of hope and glory.

Actually I don't think it'll happen. Our PC obsessed ruling liberal class see any nationalistic expressions by the Scots, Welsh and Irish as perfectly acceptable but any English nationalism is seen as being racist and unacceptable. I hope it does happen but I will be surprised if it does.

Anyway once Jeremy becomes PM all singing will be banned, as will England, probably.

A life spent living here.

Just abut every time there's an opportunity to wave the red cross there are horror stories about some twit on the local council banning it.

Time will tell and I hope it happens. It would be nice to be able to celebrate being English with a different song to the British national anthem.

Amazing that a council would ban the flying of the national flag. Sounds more like the propaganda spread by Britain First than fact though.

Unfortunately not, it has been banned by stupid councillors. If I am not mistaken most recently it was somewhere in Somerset by a labour council because it could upset Muslims...Local community spoke up and rubbished the stupid arse of a councillor (my words :)) and that they are not offended.

I also remember locally during football that taxi drivers weren't allowed to have st georges flags on their vehicles "as it may offend people".....

Definitely not a national policy and purely down to individual stupid councillors....

I must be missing something here.

How, and by what authority, can an individual councillor ban something?

I think you've spent too much time in Spain over the years, if you really didn't realise.
Surely you've seen it mentioned, or read/heard news stories? (or are you enticing & waiting for someone to bite? :D ) It's nothing new I'm afraid.

No, I am not baiting. But every time I have heard a story like this I subsequently discover it's not actually true. If it is true, then it is wrong. If it is true.

When they convince the rest of the Labour council that it is a good idea ;) a councillor proposes something and the council agrees...Then a byelaw can be created...

I see no harm in England having an unofficial anthem for the six nations and other sporting events where a UK team is not taking part, just as the other nations in the UK do.

I would suggest Jerusalem, because of the genuis of Blake's words (from "Milton", not from "Jerusalem", last night of the proms announcers please take note) and Parry's tune. It's not nationalistic, being about creating a better England, and it's not a hymn, since it's not a prayer to the Christian god. It does contain religious references, by posing a series of metaphysical questions in its first half, but the literal answer to them all is "No".

Pomp and circumstance march number 1 is another fabulous tune, but a bit long at nearly six minutes, and performed correctly the words are only sung once, right at the end.

:agree: Its hard to know, but happy to see that more than I treat some posts with similar thoughts :D:)
