Thanks for sharing Tobers and great shots. I'm interested to understand why you didn't shoot with the Canon and close the aperture much more to shut down the ambient light as this it's what I've done when getting a black background on daylight while using OCF and may be missing something.

Hi Dave - no doubt you know this, but closing the aperture reduces the amount light hitting the sensor, whereas increasing the shutter speed reduces the duration of that light. If I'd shut the aperture any further I wouldn't have had enough power in my main flash to light the picture properly.

Yes it would have reduced the ambient light, but I'd have needed to up the power of the main light to compensate. With all my 5 flashes in use, this was not possible without changing the setup, which is why I went with the shutter speed as the last available parameter to change. With the flash duration being very short, I could afford to get a faster shutter speed audn nix the available light.

If I had more lighting power available then a slower shutter and smaller aperture would have done the same thing.
