Yes
Ours (Octopus Energy) is saying it will reduce the direct debit by the amount of the subsidy - £66 approx. per month for 6 months.

I'm with Octopus as well, and IMO a much more sensible and easier solution all round. Personally, I've made a small increase in my DD to balance out the payment over the two years.

i was under the impression it just gets deducted from your energy account?

*yep just logged on to EON and that what is says

How the Energy Bills Support Scheme will affect you.

Your Direct Debit will be reduced by £67 per month for 6 months from 1 October, however you should leave your Direct Debit at the recommended amount. Find out more about the Energy Bills Support Scheme.

I assumed it would be deducted from the DD, but no
BG and EDF plus a few others are doing the rebate thing or not as the case may be.

We are with So Energy and they put the £66 as a credit and reduced the DD so only £247 a month to pay now:rolleyes:

Got ours. Our DD has been adjusted down and we have some credit too.

I had mine paid into my bank account last week.
Mine too

I'm not sure it makes any difference. My £66 was paid by British Gas straight into my bank account.

DD = £203
Rebate = £66
Net payment for October= £137

DD after £66 deducted = £137
Net payment for October = £137

I am not clear on how it "works" where, like us, we get gas from BG and electricity from EDF

Scottish power ,paid to bank account mind we are nearly 1K in credit

It is a credit to your electric account.
The Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS) is a non-repayable discount of £400 from the government, that every household with a domestic electricity connection will start to receive from October 2022 to help offset the higher energy bills.

Ah! so it is not help with the gas usage/bills too?

I think the idea of paying it through the electric supply is that more people have an electric supplier than a gas supplier and seeing as around 80% of gas customer use the same supplier for their electric, they will just see a discount on their bill regardless of how it's worked.

Ah! makes sense :)

No. It's essentially a subsidy to energy firms to allow them to increase their prices dressed up as helping people when it's actually doing the opposite.

But every little helps, right?

Mine has finally arrived in my bank account fifteen days after the DD went through.

With Bulb, payment credited to the account on 1st October

There still appears to be no resolution on the alleged £100 subsidy for heating oil, the price is currently sitting @ 99.8p/litre

This is the latest news on alternative domestic fuel payments.

The government issued an update on the scheme on Wednesday, announcing that the mechanism for this payment will be in the form of a credit to electricity bills, but it is still not yet clear when it will be paid, with a statement only referring to ‘this winter’.

“Households eligible for these payments will receive £100 as a credit on their electricity bill this winter,” the statement said.

It cost me £2.5k to fill my tank and that will be gone by March.
£100? Why bother?

Thanks for that, it does raise a couple of questions though ... a) How are the gov ascertaining who's "off grid" from the gas network, and ... b) is the payment going to be drip fed to the electricity companies as per the £400 payment, we tend to buy heating oil in bulk (for me it's in 1000l batches ... that's ~ £1000 at todays price ... a 40% increase from last years price btw).

Mine has now been paid, BG credited it to my account.

Christ knows what BG have done with mine. I was forced to BG when my fixed supplier went under.

My first bill charged me the correct amount of money but only for Gas. I queried the bill so they cancelled it and gave me another this time for electricity minus an amount. Queried that and they provided another 2 bills. At this point I gave up, the value was right the meter reads are for the billing period and Im not far off the typical use quantities and my prior use amounts iare stored with 2 comparison sites.

Last month I was transfered from the "taken on" account on the price cap to a new standard rate account (price cap) and then was notified a week or so ago that im on the price guarantee.

It seems that they have created a new "system" (website??) which my existing log in works for but have yet to create a new App that goes with it, I cant though use the old App anymore in the mean time and have to go to the website instead.

My direct debit has gone down £40 when it should of gone up £40. I also seem to have been refunded £273.00. I cant update my DD as im too close to the day its taken.
As BG are paying into your account they shouldnt have adjusted my DD. I hate dealing with the utilities companies at the best of times so am over joyed at the prospect of having to call them to sort this mess out.

£66 paid back into my bank account by Scottish Power. For me that is a good way to do it as I get 4% cashback on the DD at the moment from Santander, so £10 cashback.
It will go back to 2% from December.

Is it morally right that everyone is getting the same?

Sure, it's probably easier and quicker from an administration point of view, but what with so much information now being held digitally, would it really have been that difficult to identify say low income elderly and low income with babies just as an example who both need the heating on more and could get a higher share from say those who really don't need it in the first place?

Nobody is getting this money. It's a subsidy to the energy companies.

Pensioners get extra support (£300 on top of the existing winter fuel payment). Low income people (on means test benefits) get extra support (£650). People on disability benefits get extra support (£150). This was all announced at the same time as the universal £400.

Well yes, but it's still of benefit to us as if it were a payment and technically there are lots of people are getting the money directly into their bank accounts.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I feel all warm and fuzzy again thanks :D

We are with EON, the DD has been the same for the last four months, no sign of a reduction or a credit into our account.
I think we are being taken for a ride, it is a bl**dy disgrace.
