I've started getting emails from Photoguard and I don't know why as I've never even heard of them. These emails don't have a little clickable select option next to them so I can't select and block them. Instead they have three little buttons, one is a bin and I forget what the others are. If I click on the bin they go but strangely they don't appear in the deleted emails section.

Has anyone else seen these and if so does anyone know how to block them?

PS.
This is in hotmail.

Have you purchased a camera recently? The retailer may have sold on your data. I think they're an insurance company for cameras.

Have a Google on how to block email addresses with Hotmail.

I have but my gear's been insured through them for years so didn't think anything of it.

I haven't bought anything and worryingly I've got another similar email with no ability to block from "Ocean credit card." I've had the same email address for decades and I've never seen this before but now I'm getting emails from two companies with no ability to tag them as junk or block them.

I wonder what's going on.

This is what it looks like... Usually if I click on that purple "OC" I can block or tag as junk but I can't with these emails. Very annoying...

It gets worse. I've now received another of these from "Carmats.co.uk"

I have no idea how and why I'm getting these emails that can't be blocked or tagged as junk.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

I might have solved it :D I looked in my security setting and ads that interest me was set to on. How that would happen I don't know but I've set it to off and I hope that'll stop these pesky ads getting through.

Nupe. Still getting them. Damn.

When I delete one a new one appears. I've gone into the settings and turned ads off but that isn't stopping them. If anyone can point me at any way to stop these I'll be grateful as they're driving me mad. This only started happening a couple of hours ago and I've no idea why.

I see that my Google Chrome updated yesterday. I wonder if this is what's causing the ad emails. Could be. I've turned everything I can see off and they're still coming through so it could be that someone somewhere has tweaked Chrome to allow these ads to be emailed though.

An update just in case anyone has this issue and it annoys them.

I think this is something to do with an update to Chrome. Googling tells me other people have seen the same thing going back years but it first affected me yesterday, I'd never seen it before. The "fix" for me was to download a Chrome ad blocker which was free and it seems to have blocked these ads. The only drawback is that there's an empty space where the ad used to appear which is triggering my ocd but I suppose this is the best fix and I'll have to live with it as I can't see any other way to kill these annoying ads.

This is what my email looks like now. See the gap?

If anyone has another way of killing these ads please let me know :D

I wonder is it a Hotmail only issue? I stopped using that years back because it was riddled with ads and bot mails no matter how I set security. Haven't had any of that since using Gmail, anything I haven't signed up for goes direct to spam folder and it's a one click delete all every now and then

I've only ever had the one hotmail address basically because it seems too much trouble to change it. When I open it there's always been adverts on the right hand side which I cut off in those cut and pastes above. These new emails are a new thing that I've never seen before and keep in mind that I've had this email address for decades. Googling took me to other people seeing the same issue years ago but with no clear fix.

Like everyone I get the odd spam email and at first I thought these were just the same but the differences are that you can't tag them as spam or block them and every time I deleted one another popped up.

I went through all the "block ads" options both in hotmail and in my browser but they just kept coming so it was then that I looked at the aps in windows to see if anything odd had downloaded and I spotted that Chrome had done a big download earlier. So all I can assume is that hotmail managed to block these ad emails for years but the recent Chrome update has enabled the ads to now get through. The free chrome ad blocker is I suppose a good fix and it's killed off the ads on the right hand side too. The only drawback I can see at the moment is that the space left by the blocked ad triggers my ocd but it's just about liveable :D

Anyway. Hopefully reading this has given some a laugh :D or could maybe even help someone seeing the same thing :D

Personally I don't think it's a malware issue and I have done a scan which found nothing.

Just to be clear the ads are easily deleted but once you delete one another pops up so there's always one visible as the first email at the top of the pile. They look different as you can see as they're displayed as ads and the options to tag them as junk or block them aren't available.

I may be wrong but I've convinced myself that the latest chrome update has changed something and is now allowing these through for the first time ever for me. The free chrome ad blocker being the partial fix, I say partial as it leaves me with that ocd triggering space at the top :D

They aren't emails - they are adverts placed at the start of your inbox to look like emails. As it's the place you always look on the screen - they've started putting adverts there. Use of a good ad-blocker should help as you've found. You can't get rid of the empty space as it's specifically an advert area of the screen build - so you either accept the adverts or the blank space :)

Yup. I'm convinced it's something to do with the big Chrome update that happened yesterday, for me anyway. I'd never seen them before so it looks like more than a coincidence.
