Currently using Outlook 2007 across a number of computers and it really doesn't handle iMAP email accounts very good and there's that constant "connection lost" problem. Tried Thunderbird but it kept having the "sent" problem no matter what fixes or changes I made and I also don't like the interface and how it handles searches etc.

So, I'm considering Outlook 2016. Is it any good? Is there a credible alternative?

What's the "sent" problem in Thunderbird?
There's the mail app that's built into Windows 8+

Outlook is bloaty. And Webmail is always an option.

Not sure but I did read in many places that 2007 was horrific for iMap apparently.

The sent problem with Thunderbird is it not being able to save sent messages. Very annoying. Tried manually setting the path etc.

Anyway, ended up getting Outlook 2016 and it seems very stable. But, the bloody Thesaurus is greyed out and their support are terrible. Keep passing me around different chat groups.

Well after chatting with four, yep four!, Microsoft "professionals" I still couldn't get an answer. Eventually found it myself by looking up answers for Outlook 2013 (I'm guessing 2016 is too new for online Google help etc). Basically, I need Word 2016 also to get the Thesaurus feature. I can live without it.

What do you mean by "saving sent messages"? They are saved anyway without any action on your part. Do you mean archiving or exporting? I've never had any problem using Thinderbird.

There's lots of documented cases about it online , I think it may be a glitch?

I see them, though all the links I've looked at are 2014 or earlier. As I say, I have never seen this and I have set up Thunderbird on Windows, Linux and Mac for friends and family members who complain to me if they stop working. I haven't seen/heard of this problem so guess we have been lucky. All on IMAP if that makes any difference. I hope you find a solution.

I'm using outlook 2016 with two email accounts (imap) and it works great.

It would be even better if Google calendar syncd properly!

I use Calendar Sync Pro which works well with outlook 2010 and should work just as good with 2016

You can get it HERE

is a good email client - I mainly use it as it has a really good calendar client - better than thunderbirds calendar

Seconded. The calendar syncs with Google's calendar very quickly so I can happily put events or whatever on there and find them on my Android tablet moments later. It's reliable, the functions available are just what I need (including Move to Junk and blacklist email), and it backs itself up regularly by default. It also features Local Folders which is something that's absolutely necessary for me. I'm using the paid-for version with 7 different mail domains through IMAP but I feel that it was well worth the £40-odd that I paid for it, though I now see that it's down to £29.95. You can test it for free with two accounts to make sure it's worth the price to you, but I can't think of a single downside to this program.
