Yes
Is the Elinchrom fitting the same as anything else?

I was in WEX the other day and on their clearance offers table was an Elinchrom Style RX600 head. Sold as seen £ 15.00. Yes 15 quid.

No box, no instructions and missing the front flowerpot bulb protector, but seems to work fine. I've got a stand, I've got a PC sync cable or I can probably use my remote flashgun triggers, but I need a source for cheap softbox with correct fittings.

Guidance please...

Not bad, that head costs about £200 - 300 second hand if it's a digital model.

eBay is full of cheap softboxes with Elinchrom fittings but why not just get the softbox you want regardless of fitting and then buy an Elinchrom adapter for the speedring (about £10)?

nope, you need a different speedring fitting. You can also buy adapters as simonbarker said if your existing fittings are bowens fit.

Bargain!

Because when you use adapters the light then doesn't sit optimally inside the modifier.

Different kind of adapter Jenny. The ones referred to here are fine - less of an adapter, more of an interchangeable mount.

It looks like my interfit ex150 soft box will fit. Must get that out and try it.

Yes, Interfit use the EL mount. Some Calumet heads too I think, though as mentioned there are plenty of third party modifiers in EL mount.

I use a mix of Elinchrom and Interfit. 2 d-lites for main/fill and 2 Ex150's for hair/rim/background. They use the same fitting.

The Intefit softbox I got with a kit only has one diffusing baffle and is pretty flimsy, so I wouldn't recommend it for a main light, but it works fine for backdrop.

Lots of resources for the EL fit modifiers. Let me know if you'd like some links.

Thanks. That would be useful, thanks.

I have an ancient Mk I Interfit EX150 kit which no longer triggers from the sync cables or wireless trigger so I trigger via their optical cells with an onboard flash on lowest power pointing in the wrong direction.

I can use the new Elinchrom as a main light. I'll look into better softboxes too.

I recommend grabbing one of the Elinchrom deflectors for your main light, they are so useful.

I use the flimsy/crappy softbox on my Interfits or reflectors with grids. The bracket on the Interfits isn't amazing, but I replaced mine for new ones which improved it a bit. Only about £12 or so quid direct from Interfit.

Later I plan to dump the Interfits and grab a couple of d-Lite 4 RX's, so the d-Lite 2's will become my backlights.

Depending on which version you got you may have integrated Skyport, if you do then you can add the transmitter and not have to worry about using the on board flash to trigger.
