Elinchrom Skyports - PC Sync or Hotshoe?

I'm interested in this too, Matt.

Do you need a receiver on every flash head - or will the flash from the master cause the slaves to shoot too?

Cherryrig - where are you!

yeah you do need a reciver for every head.

you get a transmitter that fitss snuggly into you camera hotshoe, and then you have the recivers that connect to your flashes/head via a pc sync cable, i think, not sure 100% sure on what the different cables are called

cherryrig might of mentioned it in his review on the skyports, worth checking there

Thanks for the info. Probably not going to be viable then!
Back to the drawing board....

Well depending on where your using them you can sometimes get away with just using a optical slave on a flash then fire another flash off. I sometimes do that with my SB-26 as it's just a slave unit built into, if I can't be bothered at connect it up.

However most of time I just use the Skyports on each flash as then I know that they will fire when all the rest will ;)

You think £75 is a lot for an extra receiver but PW receivers are £160. So thats two Skyports for everyone one PW.........................still costly now????

The transmitter just fits on the hot shoe of the camera, just like PW's and the eBay Slaves

I'd love to know how Pocket Wizards compare with Skyports (or vice versa) because I'm about to purchase a wireless trigger system and in an ideal world, it'd be Pocket Wizards but if Skyports are "nearly as good", then I'll go for them.

Yes Skyports are nearly as good.

I've tested them loads and loads, but they have NEVER let me down. Skyports are up there with the PW's, just PW's have been around longer so more pro's have been using them longer.

I can't really say how happy I am with mine as I use them basically all the time so they have just become part of my every day now :lol:

So basically, you'd recommend them? :)

Thats what many people have said to me :lol:

I'll try and find an e-mail address one day and drop them one, see if I can get anything out of it.

I've wrote a review, know loads about them, talk about them whenever a "Radio Trigger" question comes up :lol:

I'll see :D

thats so true! ive seen hundreds of threads by you about them making me decide im going to buy some when i have more doller that now im asking why i dont have them already!

fair play though

Well they arrived and I must say they were flawless in operation. Did a shoot of about 200 pics on Saturday and they never skipped a beat. ;)

They are tiny though....lol...

Sounds like the Skyports are a winner, and for less than half the price.

Any idea what they are like outside and at a distance, say at 25 metres?

I don't think I'd need huge distances, but the option to fire them at a distance without worrying too much would be nice.

I was tempted at the Alien Bee Cybersyncs, but the UKP == USD exchange rate is terrible now, making the Skyports a little cheaper.

Thanks in advance

Just got our skyports. We appear to be missing a cable. Can anyone point me to a place they sell the 3.5mm to PC Sync cable that plugs into the flash?

Thanks!

It's a big con! 8 quid for a cable!

THis was very helpful, thank you.

We found the cables on ebay for a fiver each. That's more reasonable!

That's the boy. Glad to hear they're decent!
