Having only been into off camera flash for about a year, it's time to move to the next level. After much umming and ahhing a set of Quadras (the 'A kit') is now winging its way to me.

Up to now I've been using speedlights (sb800 and 2 sb600s) but for my photography to move to the next level, I need more power. The thing that sold the quadras for me is the size and portability. I generally work alone, and travel by train sometimes so size and weight of gear is becoming crucial to me.

So, any other quadra users on here - what have I got to look forward to?

-EDIT- Pic added, see post below for details

Good for you

Hoping to get some myself soon so can't wait to hear about how it goes for you.

Happy days :)

Sounds like fun!!

Where did you get them from?

Speedgraphic. Cheapest in UK I could find (£1477 for 'A' kit), but I think I got the last one. They also had a used kit recently for £1000 but I missed that one, which was annoying.

A bloody big hole in your pocket.

Fortunately, the head is sooooo small it will fill the hole a treat.

Hee - you're not wrong there. Some think they are a tad too expensive for what they are, but I think you're paying a % chunk for the size and weight, which my back will appreciate. The heads are lighter than a speedlight, mental.

Good for you

Ta bud- will try post my thoughts and what not on here when I've given them a good go!

fancied one of those kits for a while... :D

Are there plenty of accessories/modifiers for these ????

Yup - if you buy the EL adapter ring widget you can use a huge range of Elinchrom modifiers apparently, up to and including some of the big octaboxes (though there have been some reported issues of 'slippage' using some big stuff.)

This adapter seems to be out of stock everywhere though, and it's really prciey for what it is (about £70!) so am holding off on it for the mo. Maybe they're working on releasing a new better version?

Hi Dangleman,

Any test shots done ????

Sorry for the delay on this, been busy with various stuff. Anyway here's s shot from a shoot today. It was kind of a test set, but the 'bear' and everything is actually part of a job I'm working on at the mo, so I probably shouldn't be posting this as I may actually end up using it. Still, it's only one so...

Details are: f14, 1/320 sec (to purposefully get banding at bottom) and 1 quadra head on about 3/4 power I think. Day was bright but not full on sunny and the sun was actually behind me here, so not quite getting the full on cross light/ competing with the sun effect I was wanting.

Lots more testing to come...
