I'm looking at getting some barn doors for my D-Lite 200's - and everywhere I look I seem to see that Elinchrom do 2 sets, a 'normal' set and a 'pro' set.

Spec wise they are identical. Price wise they are £50 apart. Look wise - one has a slightly different shape barn door - but is it worth the extra?

Has anyone seen both close up?

What's the difference? A google search seems to draw a blank....

The £144 Set

The £88 set

Elinchrom's website details the bits that you get with each set....

EL6037
1 Light shaper carrier 26034,
2 Barndoors 26 x 16 cm 26006,
2 Barndoors 21 x 15 cm 26009.

EL6039
1 Light Shaper Carrier 26034,
2 Barndoors 26 x 16 cm trapezium size,
2 Barndoors 20 x 15 cm trapezium size,
4 Barndoors 20 x 15 cm trapezium size,
2 Barndoors 21 x 15 cm rectangular size.

Looks like 6 extra doors the additional money.

Thanks Bob - I couldn't see that for looking... Seems a lot of doors..

Make sure you have the right reflector to take the accessory holder for the Barn doors.

The standard 16cm kit reflectors don't take them...
If you need to get them, get the 21cm as this is the one that takes the most attachments that are available.

Alternatively it may be cheaper to get some clip on barn doors that fit any reflector.....

Or cheaper again to get some Manfrotto Multiclips and use card with them

Thanks Jon - I have the 21cm reflector yes... It's the first time I'm getting a few light modifying accessories.. I was just confused as to why you'd spend more on the same thing just as it's labelled 'pro'. I think I'd be happy with 4 doors..

Hi mate - if you search on ebay for elinchrom barndoor you will find a 3rd party chinese barndoor with honeycomb grid and 4 gels. Might be worth trying that? I'm going to give it a go - it's 19 quid.

Have seen those - but my experience of the 3rd party stuff has so far always been pretty bad... Good value price wise - but everything I ever tried usually fell apart fairly quickly, so a bit reluctant to do it again.. Someone once said 'Buy once - buy right' and that's worked for me since..

Yeah fair enough and a very good point. I feel the same way. However, I have been swayed by a couple of recent purchases that I am very happy with (both photography related). Hmm will have to have a think about the best way forward on this one. :)

It's a tricky one - on one hand you can argue it's just a few bits of metal.. But don't want to spend half my time having to re-adjust or hold them together with sticky tape.. If you get a set, maybe let us know how you get on..
