Elements help!

I'm using Photoshop Elements 8 and there's something I thought maybe quite simple to do, but I can't find a way.
Of course it probably is quite simple and I'm just missing it!

Can I cut/copy and paste a photo (or a section of a photo), straight on to another photo?
I've also seen photos on Flickr where there are two photos (side by side) in one photo.

Any light shedding would be appreciated.

1-Open the two images in the editor bring up the image you want to paste from (use the file bin if there not both showing) and make a selection with one of the selection tools. Then go to Edit > Copy

2-Then bring the other image up in the editor and go to Edit > Paste.

Alternativley have both images showing in the editor ( go to Window > Image> Cascade) . Make a selection and using the move tool drag it across to the other image.
