Hi, new here so please bear with me if this has been covered before....

I am considering buying either elements 9 or Lightroom 4. Which is best for someone with limited editing knowledge?

Also, can I open RAW files in each without adding plug-ins?

I currently run elements 6.

Two different program for different purposes Calum. What are you interested in doing? Editing individual images or is there workflow involved with large groups of images?
 
My advice is to go with Lightroom. I started with Elements then purchased LR. I now use LR for 95% of my processing. Great organiser too which beats Elements version by a country mile.
 
I only use the basics in elements. I am drawn towards LR because I've heard it's great for organising but what will I loose out on compared to elements? Can you still work with layers etc?
 
LR does not have layers.
