Elements 9 - Worth getting to replace CS2?

I'm looking to replace my Photoshop CS2 as I like the look of the new features in photoshop. However much I want to upgrade to CS5 I simply cannot afford it, especially as I'm wanting to upgrade my 18-55is lens.

I've had a look at Elements 9 and it looks like a good affordable option.

I am not massively up on PP techniques etc and don't really feel I'm getting the full use out of CS2 anyway.

So I guess my question is,
Will buying elements 9 be a good upgrade from CS2 for a newish photographer getting into the editing side of things, or will I loose some features and waste my money??

Sorry I can't really answer your question because I haven't used CS at all or PSE9, however I do use PSE8 and find it does all I need it to - after 4 months I'm still learning loads of things in it - I like it better than Corel, or PSP and think it's great value for money.
