managed to get a copy of elements 9 on the amazon offers today.. £22.99, seems a good price but haven't clicked to buy yet as am wondering will I be able to open NEF files on it?.. cant with my current version 6

8 does so I would assume that 9 will.

Yes it will as it uses adobe camera raw 6 (ACR) and upwards..;)

had elements 6 but only used it for adding actions after doing main adjustments on PSP pro photo x2.. am gonna try and stick to the elements now will be less faffing about!

like the spot healing tool for getting rid of things.. thanks for the link, will be useful
 
been looking and cant see it.. does elements 9 have noise removal?

(used that often on PSP pro photo x2)
 
I just purchased and upgraded to Elements V9 from V8 today.
Up until reading these posts just now I was working on Canon cr2 files with no problem.
I opened my first NEF file a few minutes ago. The photo opened in Adobe Camera Raw 6.1 - Nikon D300 window. The only difference was that in V7 Camera Raw was version 5.4 or 5.7. V8 opened the NEF files in CR v6.1 also. You should have no problem with this new version.

Filter > Noise > reduce noise.

I just discovered that V9 also has a camera distortion correction feature:

Filter > Correct Camera Distortion

This looks like a neat hi techy feature.
I have the Topaz Labs Denoise 5 8bf file and the Imagenomic Noiseware Plug-in 8bf file installed also. I have noise removal "coming out my ears" !!
 
Do I need to uninstall v8 before installing v9, or will it just upgrade?

I was hoping to get this for christmas but after reading reviews both myself and the Mrs aren't sure now :shrug:

No - I actually had both 7 & 9 on my machine at the same time. Once I had paid for 9 after the free trail I just uninstalled 7 as I didn't need it any more.

When you install 9 it will "find" all the photographs that you have in any earlier versions and store the thumbnails in its organiser and the locations for future use. Widows just treats the different versions as totally different programmes.
