Yes
My mum is 87, lives alone and is loosing it a bit, and a couple of times we have found the iron left on a few hours after she has finished ironing.
I would like some sort of timer that ideally can be fitted in-line that turns the iron off after say 30 minutes, or one you plug into the socket.
However, the plug in type (this sort of thing - https://www.screwfix.com/p/masterplug-digital-programmable-7-day-timer-240v/50676 - usually require some fiddling with and I can see her not bothering.

The only thing I have found that might do the job is this -

I could then run an unswitched socket from it into which she could plug her iron.
Does anyone have any other suggestions please ?

Our iron turns itself off if it’s left untouched for a few minutes - can’t remember the model now but it wasn’t expensive and is around 5 years old so perhaps look at what’s available now on the irons themselves

Edit - just seen links! That’s the kind of thing.

Fantastic - many thanks for that !
I was certainly trying to make things complicated for myself.....
No worries, my other half came to me with the same issue and i went down the timer route, only for my 14 y/o to get involved and say "why not just buy an iron with a timer"
so i can't really take the credit, simple minds find simple solutions.

Timer switches can be complicated to setup. Too many buttons.

How about a smart plug? They have a single power button on the plug, simple to use for the elderly. You can set an automation: trigger on plug power-on, wait 30 minutes and turn plug off. You can also see power status (perhaps also logs) and turn off remotely if needed.

I have a couple cheap £9 Woox plug which can be used on the Tuya app. Just checked, you can setup the above automation (I have set one up, but not tested). I personally use Home Assistant to do automations, but the principle is the same.

Again, thanks for all the suggestions.
I'm seeing her later today so will have a chat with her so we can make a decision.
Talk photography. It's a good place.
