Hello, my 6 year old found this egg this afternoon whilst we were walking the dogs! She wants to take it for show and tell tomorrow! Am I right in thinking this is a wood pigeon egg! It's not very big as you can see.. Was found in open field next to a bank of long grass!

Size and colour look right for a pigeon :)
 
Hi MJ,yup does look like a woody egg. I think they carry them off some way from the nest and drop them just after a chick:) .ok squab hatches,possibly a mechanism to stop predators being attracted to the nest site, We've found many over the years but it's always cool when a little one is involved in the find
