very angry!!!

shortly before christmas we had a land lords inspection where the letting agents came round and checked on the house. we highlighted a few issues with the house, mainly due to the lack of ventilation in the kitchen and bathroom leading to excessive moisture and condensation in these rooms, we also pointed out that the lack of any heating in any way shape or form in the kitchen isnt exactly helping matters.

now to be fair to the letting agents they did get onto it, they got a builder to ring me a week before christmas to said he was coming round to put some air vents into the 2 rooms. i asked if they were to be fan assisted air vents and they believed that was the case. so i let the builder come into the house while i was at work and do the work...

so i got home to find that the builder had actually simply knocked a brick out the solid brick wall and stuck two of those plastic air brick covers over the holes........ so now all we have is a nice balancing vent to ensure that the temperature within the room is much much colder (leading to even more condensation as the air is so cold in that room) currently the thermometer reads 2degC..................... too cold to actually go in their and cook or do anything...!

so immediately we contacted the agents, told them what had been done and they said they would call the builder and get him to come back and install proper electric vents that might actually do the required job.........
that was three weeks ago, the coldest 3 weeks of the year so far id like to add.

well when we got back from being away on boxing day we found that our freezer had defrosted, and everything in it was ruined. i presumed this was just a powercut.
today the same thing has happened, so i logged into the ADSL router to see if it had had to reconnect at any point due to powercuts, it hasnt. soooooooooooo
i can only presume the two are linked, so a bit of research informs me that some fridge freezers cant cope with cold temperatures and if the outside temp gets below 4degC then.... so basically the incompetence on behalf of the builder (and to some degree the letting agents) has basically led to 2 freezer loads of food going in the bin.... not happy!

i shall be ringing the agents tomorrow as soon as they open and demand they get the incompetent **** of a builder back in to fix his **** ups and also politely request they install a radiator as well to help matters. but im tempted to think that im doing this :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

What a total ****ing asshole! :bang::bang::bang:

hope you get it sorted PDQ

hes supposed to be coming back today to sort it all out (doubt he will show) good news is that ill be in if he does come round to do the work i can point out what a moron he is!

Is it the builder's fault? I would suspect that since the landlord's the one footing the bill, he/she is the one giving the builder the instructions.

Yes, and if he's anything like the builders around here. I'd be polite

:whistling:

hed been instructed to fit electric ventilation (according to the estate agents who instructed him) not knock a brick out of the wall and **** off and be uncontactable for the next 3 weeks....

whilst its true that wires may have been crossed, im ****ed off with him as he quite obviously has done the cheapest quickest job possible however anyone with half a brain can see that what he had done was not going to solve any problems what so ever and create more.

S'true about the freezers! We had a new one installed in an outhouse. It was so cold it refused to freeze the contents once Summer finished. :)

You got that spot on. The agency wanted to save money, landlord wanted to safe money, the builder got the contract details from the agency so did what was on the contract order, now agency is playing stupid blaiming the contractor because he is just a "builder", and tenants unfortunately are angry and blaiming the contractor, because its the easiest way to let of some steam.
I can bet with you that agency is to be blame!!!
Why, because ive been in situations like this before:gag:

after talking to the builder (finally) it appears this is EXACTLY the case. we are currently penning a complaint letter to the agency. aparently he questioned whther they meant air vents or extractor fans and they said air vents (the agents tell me he was instructed to fit extractor fans).
he says he will be round tomorrow to carry out the work.

(unless we are of course stuck in a vicious circle!).

This does not however excuse the builders lack of contact with either parties to remedy the 'mistake'

:bang::bang::bang::bang:
this is precisely why i detest renting properties!!!!!:bang:

I expect this was probably more a problem on the part of the agent too. Builders tend to want to do the job that will make them most money - so installing the electric extractors would have been preference. Of course that would also need an electrician too which costs extra.

Sounds like someone is tell porkies. My money would be on the agents.

Look in the dictionary for the word "Agent"... There is a picture of a SNAKE.:suspect:

I'd think it'll be between the agents and the owner, at the end of the day it's the owner who'll be paying.

I'd look in to small claims court to cover the cost of the food. I'm currently reading up as I'm planning to take Comet to court. You can claim for 'cosequential loss'.
