Yes
I currently have the 400D, when looking to get a new lens is it worth getting EF-S lenses? As when I want to upgrade the camera it will most likely be a full frame one therefore the lens won't fit on the new body.

All I can say is that as someone who has just upgraded to a 5D, I'm really glad all the lens I bought for the 400D where EF lens.

I have a 20D that takes ef-s glass, and a 1d mk11n that doesn't. I have both bodies so the 1 ef-s lens still has it's use. But I will change it eventually for a L lens.
So If your considering changing to a full frame or 1.3 think carefully, but also think how likely it is you really will make the change to full frame. Most likley your regular lens will be a ef-s anything else wont be, eg telephoto, primes. So you'd only have to change one lens to replace the ef-s.

:agree: You are only likely to need an EF-S at the wide angle and you won't lose a shed load of cash when you come to sell because there are plenty of cropped sensor users out there so demand is still high. Also if you don't buy now you will be restricted with the type of shots you can take currently

Just my 2p's worth anyway

Thanks all for your views. I ask because there are a few decent EFS lenses out there e.g. the 10-20, the new pair of IS's, I'm just not sure whether it's worth buying these lenses when in the future I am most likely going to need to sell them.
I think I probably will get a 10-20 EFS but other than that I'll stick to EF lenses.

:agree:

Canon are still developing and pushing both the 400D and 40D ranges, which when you look at volume of sales, must make up the majority of their DSLRs. Most people just cant afford to spend ££££'s on a 5D or 1D. There will therefore be a strong market for EF-S glass for a good many years yet (if not indefinately, as personally i cant see canon dropping the 1.6x crop bodies).

Good glass holds its value pretty well, so even if you do decide to go FF, the chances are you wont loose out much if selling on a decent EF-S lens.

it deepends when you are thinking of changing, yes the glass will be easy to sell, but why buy and then have to sell in say 3-4 months when you could spend the money on your new camera??

well I'll probably keep the 400D for at least year to practice and learn more about taking photos and after if I think I could benefit from an upgrade I'd buy a full frame one.

sorry to interupt

but does anyone know if the sigma 105mm macro will work on full frame? and will it still be good

I have no idea of your ability as a tag.... I really wouldn't worry about whether or not EF-S lenses are a worthwhile investment or not, take the photo, enjoy it and see where you go.
As everyone has said, non FF cameras will be available for many years, so you will still get a good return on it.
