EF 500 ST DG Vs EF 500 SUPER DG

Some of the extras on the 'super' are

Wireless slave function
Fast shutter flash
Modeling light
Second curtain sync
Multi exposure mode
Exposure compensation

Thanks Guys :) for all the info (as ever far more informative than anywhere else on the web)

I had a real worry that my firmware wasn't up to date - but thanks to the link I see it is - I thought this as some of you may remember the problems I had getting a Cobra 700AF flash to work with the 350 and in the end took it to bits and removed most of the pins. I was glad to see a firmware upgrade wouldn't have helped.

The Sigma can you use it in many modes with the 350D? At the mo with the cobra I can only use Manual with it. I'm hoping the sigma gives me a bit of flexibility

I did a bit of googling and from what I can ascertain from my brief search (Xtra Factor is about to start :D)...

Three main differences are :

Lack of full manual control
Lack of LCD
Can't do hi speed sync
Can't be used as master or slave when with another flash wirelessly.

Not too sure about the Av and Tv though. I would assume that as these modes rely on Canons E-TTL system, and theyre E-TTL compatible, then they would both work....but dont quote me on that :p

i have the SuperDG500 and its very good. bit hot though...

I have the Super with my 350d. I got it here

I want the EF 500 Dg Super for my Nikon D50 and will probably go to OneStop as they have been excellent in the past.

I note the thread a comment about it running hot - does anybody else have any reports on it before I press the 'buy me' button!

Cheers,

Bob

i think its only mine, never had any other reports on one being hot

Not had any problems with mine, also I got it from OneStop. I used it in anger for the first time a few weeks back shooting a wedding. It performed faultlessly and one set of 7dayshop 2700mha batteries did the whole day.

Timely thread, I was just about to buy me a 580 EX and saw the above so went to OneStop. Certainly the cheapest around. OK I didn’t cotton on at the time of placing the order that they are in HK, but what the heck. The only trouble is that 24 hours on and no contact from them and my order is still ‘09/20/2006 Processing’. Fingers crossed :shake:

Communication is pretty non existant from them WetSparks but my flash arrived about a week after I ordered it.

Apparently Fai has been really busy lately (He's the guy behind onestop).
He hasn't disappeared and is still processing orders, just the communicaiton is a little lax...;)

How did you pay?

My nifty fifty landed on the door 4 days after ordering - still showing processing at the time. I have had no probs with them at all - think I will press the buy button!!!

OK sounds a reasonable bet then. Paid with paypal so there shouldn't be any problems there either :)

I bought my super from onestop. Theres no point getting the ST - the super is only a bit more and has loads of extra modes. I've had no heat problems. Great Flash!!

My flash had been opened by customs and re-sealed...but no payments were required. One Stop say that if you get clobbered to pay vat & duty, they will re-imburse you. (however I guess that if you are fined they wont pay that too!! ;) )

Well I've had an email from them to say it's on the way, so all's looking good.

Oooo I cant wait to start flashing :naughty:

It's this end they check it at customs...but I think its only 1 in every so many so I shouldnt worry.

Well its good news :)

I'd ordered a Sto-Fen Omni Bounce as well and that arrived via the ordinary posty yesterday. When I checked last night with the tracking number on Parcel Force it still said that they had not received the package :|

Then today just as I was driving to work I saw the posty man parcel van. I don't know why but I decided to turn around and go back home (I think it's a good enough reason for being late - init?). Anyhow there was the posty man on me door step with a package. There was this big sticker on it saying that it had to be signed for, but he had no paperwork for me to sign, hey ho. But it was me flash, no import or vat either :) :)
