It's taken me all week to think of something suitable and potentially different and the temptation to look to see what others had come up with was getting stronger, when, with a few hours left it suddenly came to me, the only problem was, the weather is a bit grey with flecks of snow in the sky.

I talked my wife into dropping me off on the slip road close to my chosen subject and walked along the A38 dual carriageway flyover into a position to be able to take my themed shot.

I set up the 24L TSE MkII and dialed in 3mm of lateral shift to the right to move the end of the roof from behind the trees on the left, I then dialed in the maximum tilt upwards to create a narrow band of focus before using the live view at 10x zoom to focus on the roof, this I was hoping would give me a pseudo miniature looking shot.

Canon 1Ds MkIII, 24L TS-E MkII, 1/60 sec, f4, ISO 100.

Hope you like it:

Good choice of subject with the roof . The minature effect of the TS lenses can be a marmite subject but I think it works really well in this shot.

Looking forward to your next 51 :)

Great setup and execution!! Must invest in a T&S !!

Nice one! Though I would be tempted to crop the foreground completely, removing all the cars, and take a bit off the sky as well, to leave a pano dominated by the interesting curved roof. That would spoil your miniature effect, though...

Well spotted - i like the TS effect and the weather looks a lot better your side of the river - been snowing all day here :(

Nice spot... and the riverbank is curved too.

I'm not overly keen on the photograph itself, but suspect your motivation was more about fulfilling the theme and practicing with the TS-E. Both of which you appear to have pulled off very successfully. :)

Taking Lees point the river curves away from the roof curves - adds a nice bit of balance for me - not sure the Tilt shift has worked as well as I have seen before but I can see its close!

Its a good spot Ed and I'm finding on every viewing its appealing more and more :) One to study I think :D

Thanks Gents!

That's a great roof, and a good subject for the theme :)

I like the curve of the riverbank too, works well with the composition

Nice shot Ed, know it quiet well, I drive past here at least once a month for work.

Ello Ed! Donkey Matt ere.

Lovely start to your 52. There is something that captivates me within a T&S shot. I cant put my finger on what it is but they always seem to transfix my attention for a couple of seconds in a kind of hynotism. This one definitely doing that - especially since it is of an urban place rather than some seaside hill...

Best of luck mate for your 52.

I'm becoming quite a fan of this tilting and shifting stuff. I've no idea wht you did from your explanation, but it's very pleasing on the eye :)

Now that Mr Ed really works  Loving the 'model village' look the Ts has produced and the curves work well for the theme.

Thank you all for your comments!

Had an edit suggested to make it more ToyTownish. Does this work?

It certainly does! love the edit, what did you do?

Boosted the saturation a lot and then changed the colour balance slightly, then corrected the contrast.

Very good Ed, that TS lens has sure done the business, and the curves are good. Like the Edit

I can see where you were going but not sure if I like it personally...

I think the curves of the roof are lost a little in the photo and the colours in the second shot don't quite sit right with me.

It's good to be different though and a lot of people seem to like it as well.

Thanks for your thoughts, variety is the spice of life!

I like this one very much and well done for not peeking at the others until you got your shot.
I'm currently struggling not to drop into any of the poetry threads.

Good spot for the theme - The contrast of the concave river curve vs the convex roof curves works well.
I do like these tilt shift shots and it's nice to see one that's been achieved with a lens rather than modified later in PP. And you picked a good location for this treatment - the foreground trees have come out brilliantly.

I'm not too sure about the edit though.
I see what you mean about making it more toy town, but it's just a stage too far for me personally. Maybe something in between version 1 and 2 ?

I am still with the first one which I like very much. Good too that you got the curve of the river.

First one for me too

I love the effect you have created and how the curve of the river balances the curve of the building :clap:

I know that setting up those TS-E lenses can take some time, but dude, you're 7 weeks behind the rest of us! :p

Don't go there :nono: I have had a pretty busy last few weeks, apart from the odd shot indoors I haven't taken any pics for ages. I have not even managed to try out my new 17 TSE properly yet.
