Beginner Edit in LR then send to Photoshop can I send back to LR

I always start editing my images in LR then if I want to do a little work in photoshop I just go to Photo > Edit in > Photoshop CC

I then do the little I can in photoshop (mostly content aware etc) but if I want to do a little more in LR after I save and then import back into LR, can I send back to LR from Photoshop?

Yes. If you right click whichever image you have worked on in LR, then select edit in PS. Once you done your edit in PS save the image and it will automatically put it back into LR beside your initial image.

Yes you can. Just select the option to edit in CS and when you've finished and click close it will ask you if you want to save say yes and the edited file will immediately be back on LR.
Must be easy. ....I can do it.
 
Hmmm

I've just tried it, I opened 1 image in LR sent it to PS then saved it in Photo Library went back to LR but I only had my original image there (the 1 before I changed it in PS)

Think you've saved the image from CS. Don't do that. Just close it. You will be asked if you want to save it. Then say yes . That should put it back into LR.

I know I clicked save in PS but has it actually saved it anywhere or has it just sent it back to LR?
 
Check the original folder that your images are in. Could be in there. If it is then synchronise and it should appear in LR.
Difficult to be exact without seeing your screen!
 
I could bring my 13" macbook on our next meet, you could even browse over it whilst "I BUY YOU A PINT OR TWO"
 
Two problems with that statement.
1) You expect us to drive over an hour to you so you know we won't be drinking.
2) No one has yet seen your wallet.

But bring your tiny 13" and we'll have a play with it.

Now #1 is a fantastic idea

Never heard of Llanberis but google is my friend, a day shooting landscapes i presume.
 
Llanberis is in the land of the spittle sprayers!
A day in the slate mining museum then up the hillside in the ruins of the old slate mines.
Dereliction and Industrial Archeology.
Most interesting.
We "might" be going to Manchester on a yet to be decided day at the weekend. Probably be before the crowds. Interested?

I'm sure I'm free on Saturday but I'm having family round on Sunday (New years day).

Oh yes they do. It's just that they don't run very often and the nearest/only mainline connection is in Wiggin. No direct link to Preston. And the train units are the oldest in service anywhere in the country. Cattle carts are more comfortable.
 
If your going to Manchester let me know asap as I'm going to Housing Units tomorrow to measure a dining suite, if your going on Saturday I could go and measure it then. Thus saving me a !08 mile round trip.

What you must bear in mind is that, once you export to Photoshop you are no longer working with a raw file (assuming that's what you are starting with.)
Photoshop is a bitmap editor so the first thing you need to do is decide in what format you are going to export to Photoshop.
In Lightroom go to "Edit" - "Preferences" and under "External Editing" you can select the format for the file to pass to Photoshop, either PSD or TIFF.
Personally I always export as a 16-bit TIFF and "ProPhoto RGB" color space (Adobes recommendations) to maintain maximum quality, but if you know you are going to be using layers then you can start in PSD.
If you work on a TIFF and then add layers you have the option when you come to save as either flattening the image or saving as a layered TIFF or a PSD.
Once I've finished editing, upon saving the edited file appears next to the original raw preview in the Lightroom catalog, provided you have the Lightroom "Sort" criteria set to "Capture Time"

Thankyou Brian, most helpful.

I've now mastered the file swapping from one program to another, yes I do shoot in raw and always import in raw format to LR, I'll try your suggestion about file choice when exporting to PS.
