ive been called as a witness in court in Edinburgh later this year ( mid december),nothing too serious just a road traffic accident i assisted in, the rider is suing the council for the dangerous state of the roads, i live in liverpool so il be staying in a hotel the night before, if i leave early enough il have the day in edinburgh to ponce about so ive been to edingbugh a few times but never took my camera there, does anyone have any places that i should be looking at for photo oportunities, im thinking more scenic of the castle etc than street photography

Princes Street, the Scott Memorial at night, wonderful ;)

Near the court I’d suggest the roof terrace of the national museum. Can be hard to find the route up the stairs, but there’s a lift from one of the higher floors (or ask someone).

IMO it’s good as you’re in the centre but up high, so nice views of the main landmarks and rooftops. Free to get in, and if you time it for lunch I can recommend the pizzas in the place in the basement which are way better than they need to be.

Oh also Calton Hill, easy walk up from the east end of Prince’s street and good classic views.

For both of the above I’d take a tele rather than a wide, but personal preference.

I'd agree with both the above suggestions from the_accidental BUT, Calton Hill might be a bit of a stretch for your leg, Dave. Might be worth getting a cab up there (if it's possible) for the views if it's a clear day.

I'd add the upper end of the Royal Mile for detail shots of the building fronts.

We spent a day in the National Museum a couple of years ago - it was too wet (NOT rare in Edinburgh!) to do much else and we were very glad we went there.

Although I've not been there for a long, long time I believe Portobello and Leith have some decent scenic/architectural opportunities. Maybe a bit of a walk from the Court tho.

A bit of a side question, does anyone know if i can I take my my camera into court with me, obviously not to take any pictures but just with me

The tram now goes to Leith.

If it's anything like my local Crown Court (England) you will need to leave it on entry and collect it on exit.

If you have other luggage you don't want to cart about, there's left luggage in the basement (entrance) of the museum over the road from the court. I'd probably not leave a camera in there though.
