I have managed to blag myself a press pass for new years up in Edinburgh :) and have now realised that although I know Edinburgh quite well I dont really know much about where stuff happens, and where will be most busy etc.

So.....anyone even been to the hogmanay in Edinburgh and know any good spots? or anywhere to avoid ;)

Looking forward to it, first time I have had a propper press pass for anything.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

As long as it's not bad weather the main (outside) spots will be Prince's Street and the gardens.

Be careful on princess street with your gear, you will not be able to move!!!

If Olaroso http://www.oloroso.co.uk/ is open, try and use your "press status" to get onto their open air balcony.

Here is the view from olaroso:

Otherwise, if you can get "higher up" on Princess Street, do that. Is it just the fireworks you want to capture?

Edinburgh hogmany is way overrated, I always avoid. Last time I went, was in the crowd in Princess Street, and the idiots were throwing large glass bottles high in the air. Obviously these bottles came down and came down hard.

Thanks both :) there is mention of special press areas, but no idea where until I get there :( I want to capture the fireworks and general people enjoying themselves shots. So think I might try and get into a possitions early ish to capture the fireworks and then when people are starting to leave head towards princess street and try and get some people shots.

I won't be taking my camera because I want to enjoy the night rather than get burried in people trying to get a shot.

I'll be there too, but sans camera cos I fully intend on being non compos mentis by the end of the evening.

I'll be at Murrayfield Stadium also sans expensive camera. Although I'll probably take a p&s like I did last year.
