Does anyone here use/read ebooks on a windoze PC or laptop? I travel a fair bit, always taking my laptop away with me and usualy a couple of books. Being as the laptop has up to 8 hours battery life, I may as well use it instead of getting a dedicated reader or carting a couple of trees around.

Which format is best to download for ease of reading and, where from :help:

Thanks in advance
Neil

Download mobipocket reader, it's as good a reader as you can get and will read a few different file types. pdb file type as used on palm and other pdas is a common type and you will find loads of pdb books. Some free from baenbooks and alt.binaries.e-book.palm if you have access to usenet.

Thanks Steep. I haven't browsed the alt news groups for years. Are they still full of rubbish and viruses?

 + 1 for that bit of software its good.

Or if you have a iPod and a pc/laptop you could try Stanza its free for the PC and when I got the iPod client that was free as well.

But i would suggest a iPod Touch or iPhone for that one with a nice big screen
if you can call it big

And yes you still have to be a bit canny on the news bins !

About as much rubbish as your average tabloid depending on which group it is, but you can choose wether to read it or not. Viruses? same thing applies, it's easy enough to find the regular posters and you're safe downloading their stuff, e-book groups are generally clear of anything but the odd pr0n spam.
