eBay woes

Is there some sort of eBay curse at the moment? I've had so many problems that I'm convinced they must think I'm trying to pull a fast one, because of the amount of problems I've had to report.

I've had a:
item go missing in the post (a flash)
item not as described (a flash that wasn't working)
item not fit for purpose (diffuser that didn't fit on the flash it said it would)

all in the last few months. Or maybe I should just avoid flash photography... :bang:

Or just avoid eBay.....

If it's any consolation, I'm presently trying to get a response from a seller that I purchased from nearly 10 days ago.....payment for item made immediatley but no notification of dispatch nor arrival of said item and the seller is not replying to messages......it's beginning to smell a tad fishy! ....this is through ebay france, however i have had issues with ebay UK too although not recently.

I've noticed an increase of problems people are experiencing with ebay recently...a worrying trend for those of us who use it a lot.

It is a risk using it. Generally I have done OK, 2 problems in 700+ transactions so I am expecting my share of grief some time soon!

Yes local parcels are generally about 4 days...I've recontacted the seller and explained I'll be taking necessary action if no contact or parcel by the time the postie has passed by here on monday morning......Like Adrian, I've had hundreds of ebay transactions with only a handful of probs but they are a darned nuisance when they arise.

Wednesday I got a second chance offer on an Olypmus mju II at £15 so I took it. Today it arrived... or rather, a mju I zoom 35-70 arrived. Definitely NOT what I wanted. Filed a Not As Described note.

Also today I got the test film back from the rather nice Pentax-M 85mm that I bought. As expected, the shots taken around f/5.6 etc are reasonable, anything smaller than f/11 is badly over-exposed. I have to choose between seeking a partial refund to cover a refurb, or sending the whole thing back for a full refund. I'm kind of itching for the former, as I do like the feel of the lens, and they don't seem to come up all that often (I'd really like the A* but it's over £500!). But one camera CLA guy I spoke to was strongly advising me to send it back, on the basis that you never know what you're going to find when you open up one of these lenses. Best price I got so far was Miles Whitehead, and from what I can gather I can probably trust him to do a good job... Depends on the seller's willingness to deal I suppose!

Send it back, Chris! Otherwise you are likely to be spending good money after bad, as they say somewhere.. Miles is good, and I would trust him to do an excellent job, but honestly, get the cash back in yer Paypal account and wait for a good one. Been buying and selling cameras on ebay for 13 odd years now and mostly it is good, only marred by the odd sc*mb*g. This week I have got an absolutely mint Bronica EC for £180, and a 'Good working condition' Contax for £30 that looks like it has been kept buried in the garden, under the compost heap for years. Some you win, the others you send back to the lying b*st*rds.. :) And make sure you ask for all your postage to be refunded too..

Too late, Alastair! I've accepted a partial refund, as I really like the lens and I've not seen one for less than twice what I've now paid. So it will go to Miles along with my charity shop MX, and I've got my fingers crossed. I honestly don't think this seller realised the problem; it works fine at around f/5.6, but over-exposes above about f/11. Anyway, we'll see. I'll post some pics when I get it working.

But the Oly mju I zoom advertised as a mju II non-zoom: that's going back!

I'm waiting on 3 things i bought on ebay, to be delivered tomorrow.
Finger crossed.
I did sell a mint Zeiss lens on ebay for an absolute bargain prices but after receiving it the buyer tried to squeeze even more money out if me saying it was not perfect.
He wanted a discount of £100 pound and the same lenses was selling for double what he payed on ebay.
Told him to send back the lens for full refund and i never ears of him after that :-)

I have been using eBay for nearly ten years and have had my fair share of hassle in that time.

The best one was a Nikon d60 I sold in perfect condition. After the buyer received the item they sent me a message saying there was a dead pixel. I reviewed the last pictures taken with the camera and couldn't see the said dead pixel. They sent me a few pictures showing the said dead pixel and it was there clear to see. I checked the shutter count of the image and it kinda matched so I said I'd give them a full refund if they sent the d60 with correct serial number back to me. Never heard back from them. I checked their account and it looked like they were a photography dealer. So the theory I have is they had a similar d60 with a dead pixel that were trying to swap with the one I had.

Miles is the teal thing with Pentax.

He has overhauled 2 of my Pentax bodies (MX and ME Super)

Thoroughly recommended.

I've had two items come through not as described recently, a yashica electro 35 described as immaculate and recently serviced didn't fire at all and an olympus 35 sp again described as in perfect working order which was a mess. Both sellers had loads of good feedback. I'm hoping it's just a bad run of luck as I've always had reasonably good experiences on ebay

Received my things today.
Lens was as describe .
Nikon F100 was bit dirty with a sticky back, the seller never mentioned that and describes it mint.
It's looking good after a good clean and i only pay £90 so i will keep it:D

Today's arrivals: Rolleiflex SL35E with Tamron lens @ £31 - perfect - Hooray! Detrola HW @ £12 - excellent - Hooray! Nikon EN-EL3e Battery for D700 @ £13 - dead as a doornail - Boo!

Swap you a Nikon battery for the Detrola :D

Just so the mods don't get all twitchy, this is just a joke :whistling:
