On the 3rd of December I bought an item
it was dispatched to Hermes on the 5th.
the online tracking went something like this ..
3 times they tried to collect
the seller issued a "lost" request to Hermes and sent another using the same tracking number ( why? there is obviously a problem with that one.)
that sat in their depot for about a week, and never moved
(Its with courier)
I asked for a refund the seller allegedly tried to refund my PP
but couldn't.
Meant time I had started a dispute with ebay, who then put the case on hold!
The seller then asked me to start a PP dispute,
Which I did and sent all the tracking evidence I had collected inc. the ebay email
asking me to start a dispute.
The money was returned within 24 hours.

Latest update today it seems I lost the ebay dispute case, WTF?
No explanation apart from its not covered

Tracking screen shot today 23 days later ( same as always)

I tend to use ebay over amazon as they tend to be cheaper and have more options
However following this fiasco I'm certainly reviewing my buying options.

But at least PP played the game (y)

Chris e.bay probably closed it as you had already been refunded by PP... that’s my viewpoint anyway .. but it does sound like a dodgy or inexperienced seller .. the REAL problem though lies with the more thieves than Ali baba. Company “my hermes” I totally refuse to buy anything that will be sent via them earlier this year I had 5 items go missing ,lost in transit/ lost in depot etc with them .I never lost out financially but the aggravation is not worth it
I would rather pay extra to send or receive items by Royal Mail signed for

I bought a "mint" 7D MKII right at the beginning of December, it arrived 3 days later with a scratch on the rear screen. I contacted the seller saying it wasn't as descibed but he said he must have missed the scratch but because he sold it as a private seller rather than a business he wasn't taking it back Obviously that is no defense so I filed a dispute and Ebay promptly sent me a return label saying I had 10 days to return it.

Anyway it was supposed to be back by the 15th but because of the post delays it wasn't so the seller filed a counter dispute on the day saying it wasn't back in time (even though I had recorded the tracking number and as it was an Ebay label anyway so they knew it had been sent) and Ebay closed the dispute which left me with no camera and no money.

I had to contact Ebay 5 times over 10 days after that to get the dispute re-instated and get my money back despite the parcel being shown as delivered and them saying I had won the case and would have my refund in 48 hours.

Refund came through yesterday ... I'm pretty sure all this hassle is because Ebay guarantee the refund but try delaying tactics if the seller no longer has the funds in their Paypal account so Ebay themselves have to pay it and go after the seller.

Nightmare anyway.

eBay is essentially an online car boot sale. caveat emptor.

Possibly but I'm not sure they communicate going on the screen shot.
They had put the case on hold till today ( 28th) it now seems that the seller had provided them with a tracking number,
But its still floating around in the void as per the second screen shot from this morning.

My thoughts entirely Jeff :(
And I shall certainly be checking the postage details of any future considered purchase.

I'm glad it ended well Mike (y)

Years ago, it was a good place to buy, items were cheap sellers were honest.
And then the scammers moved in and ruined for the honest ones :(

Thats what i thought... so I didnt see the problem and why ebay was the butt of the anger when as far as i can see its hermes that caused the problem ?

All explained in the original post ...

ebay is odd, i had a guy buy a laptop a while ago, then send me a message with a completely different address
i sent him a message saying i could only send to the paypal address, he said he moved 3 years ago
i refunded him and still ebay say i need to give him feedback on a great transacation

I can’t figure out why the item wasn’t covered by there money back terms .. was this a new seller with a lower than 10 feedback ? , it does appear to be a toss up between seller mishaps and my hermes thievery ...
Or is it because hermes tracking shows it still in transit . With issues I have had with items getting lost/stolen/ by them previously it has taken nearly 2 months to get refunded in full .
Even Amazon items ( brand new) returned via my hermes have disappeared into the ether ...totally the worst company to use full stop ,my local Facebook page is constantly filled with complaints re my hermes ie does anyone have contact details or the drivers phone number etc

That was pretty much the point which someone seemed to have missed ;)

was this a new seller with a lower than 10 feedback ? ,
They have nearly 2000, and curiously the item has been "removed" from my bought list.

Even more curious, I received an email this morning telling me it had been delivered at 21:30 last night... 24 days later.
Sure enough there was a very crumpled soaking wet cardboard package on door step..
...It was raining heavily last evening.

Hermes T&C say they will attempt 3 deliveries and then return the package.
Surely that was "strike one"?

On their options of a safe place, I didn't nominate "on the door step in the pouring rain,
nor can I find the option to leave a parcel on the door step in the pouring rain.

But I have also bought decent quality and very useful items from China very cheap (sometimes less than the free postage they usually offer I imagine)
I agree its not all tat, but you do have to be as careful as you can be though.

Not really on point for this thread but mentioning China and variable quality got me thinking about some companies I dealt with for product approvals, CE compliance stuff. When they lacked documentation/certificates and I enquired they'd be supplied quickly, once I'd detailed exactly what I expected to see after detailed questioning by them and maybe I had to supply an example. It was so blatant that I didn't really have to suspect that they just knocked the documents up on the computer. Maybe they didn't. I couldn't prove it. More than one company was like that and another once supplied a piece of electronic equipment for approval that had an open slot in it. You're not supposed to have big open slots in equipment as things crawl in and then wee wee and poo poo on the circuit boards and chew the wires. When I asked them to prevent this possible ingress they performed gymnastics attempting to justify keeping it as obviously nothing would crawl in.

To this day I have a problem believing any certification / compliance Chinese firms claim and that goes for the made in China by western companies products too. Most may actually comply but I'm sure some just go through the motions and supply whatever documentation they can knock up quickly on the pc.
