EBay to ban negative seller views

Well no, a seller will be able to get unwarranted negative feedback removed but it depends how proactive eBay are going to be as wether it will work.

The moment I started to get letters from Paypal and their cronies demanding money for a debt that wasn't mine was the day I stopped selling anything on Fleabay. Many many calls and letters to the USA office later they seemed to get the message when I told them that this debt (over £2k by the way) was not mine and besides the email address which they supplied, again wasn't mine nor did it constitute proof of a debt. Before all this I was probably doing a fair bit of business with the Ebay.

With the loss of the negative feedback how are you supposed to judge who's ripping people off and who's trying their hardest to be genuine and is not ripping people off? Trust in Ebay is wafer thin anyway and this was one of the few ideas that gives the users some credibility both as buyers and sellers. References to a minority of problems with negative feedback have probably been experienced by many members but usually if you contact Ebay about a particular feedback problem it gets resolved.

Buyers will still be able to leave feedback, sellers will not, as I said before eBay will really have to stay on top of any problems for it to work.

i dont see how it can work very well - i mainly sell on ebay, and there are a lots of bad buyers who take weeks to pay or dont pay at all - how can a seller leave factual feedback for them without a negative rating - i can appriciate there are many bad sellers, too but surely the system needs to be as equal as possible

At least this will stop the retaliation negative feedback that some sellers employ. i had two negative experiences with one seller. The first time I put it down to experience and left no feedback. The second i left a neutral as a I got a nasty response when i complained and was wary of a negative. i still got a negative even tho' I paid within minutes, etc. My first ever negative and no way to challenge it. with the new apprioach i could have left a nagative knowing it wouldn't be retaliated.

seems a bit of a strange way to carry on
ebay and paypal are just to big for their own good IMO
Also, although there are "other" auction sites there is no real competion.
:bang:

I made a buy on 4th of Jan and still havnt got my item. After many emails to seller I got no reply and reported it to ebay the seller has been taken off but ebay refuse to say for how long they just say its confidential. Wont touch thiefbay again

Maybe I'm missing something but wouldn't it make sense for the feedback from seller and buyer to be done "blind" in a sort of feedback escrow service? Buyer leaves feedback, seller gets 7 days to do likewise once both sets are in (or the limit expires) the feedback goes live. Sellers can also submit their own feedback earlier if they want to - buyer never pays, etc.

That would stop the problems with sellers who give a negative for no reason other than getting one but still leave them in a position to leave a negative for honest reasons.

pxl8 you should be on the board of directors... i actually like that idea and I think could be very fair.

Also I would like the grading system that they have for sellers to be bought forward for buyers. For example, you can grade the buyer between 1 - 5 about how quick they paid.

:agree: that does seem to be a fairer way, id also like to see the star grading system brought in for sellers to rate buyers
