They are changing rules again. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre...130EM_T_GTC_UK_T&crd=20250529020000&ch=osgood

Just explain me, if I am missing a key piece here, does this mean that we are supposed to now send expensive items by basic delivery plans? No more RMSD? Is ebay providing their own insurance or just setting you up for scams and massive courier neglect? Just can't get my head around it. I might reconsider selling anything with them

Haven't sold on eBay for years.

I'd sooner get scammers message me on FB Marketplace.

At least I get to tell them to f*** off.

No a fan of Ebay myself but it's in the very first paragraph of the page you linked to

It offers delivery options based on similar items, as well as your courier preferences. Once your item sells, you’ll receive a prepaid printable label and QR code, which automatically includes tracking for your order so you can get paid faster. The best part is your items are fully protected in case of loss or damage in transit.

can you no longer set up a postage profile and use that? i noticed that you had to go into "advanced mode" to give you the option of selecting your own postage method. But havnt listed on there in a couple of months now. I did notice a week or so back i sold something and it defaulted to evri! I just relisted everything making sure my postage choice was selected.

Cant say i use it much now since the buyers fee was implemented. I do most of my selling at toy fairs and through my own website.

Don't tend to sell anything on Ebay nowadays as so many other options that are Sale, Pay, Dispatch with agreed postal options and no other fees to pay.
Russ.

On Simple Delivery the buyer gets a selection of options based upon the rough weight and dimensions they choose. This is putting the onus for choosing appropriate delivery onto the buyer BUT in the event of a claim, eBay has traditionally, but not exclusively, favoured the buyer.

At the moment, a seller has the option of "Simple Delivery" or "Custom Postage" where you still have control.

Whilst I understand eBay is loosing out to Facebook Marketplace, Vinted and other channels, they do seem to be making it more complicated for seller and buyer.

This was my thoughts as well. For too many years eBay has favoured the buyer and screwed the sellers. Finally I think they have realised that without sellers they don’t have a business and sellers have far more options.

Moving the charges to the buyers and now simple delivery where is looks like provided the seller uses their system you’re fully insured, reducing claims against the seller.

Looks good to me. They will put pressure on the couriers to deliver on time.

They have chosen evri, which surprises me, what will the delivery confirmation be? Evri just throw it on the doorstep from as far away as possible, then take a photo, is that going to be confirmation that you received it?

Also, I heard a story that evri were "merging" with dhl, although it may not seem possible, they are worse than evri!!!

you’re fully insured,
Do we actually know thats the case, not the first £25, or only if x, y or z are true and so on? It sounds like ebay will be acting as the insurer or using another 3rd party. You want to be sure before you hand over something expensive to evri basic plan!

I asked for an Ebay/Evri item to be delivered to a Parcelshop yesterday because I would be out all day.
The tracking said it was signed for and delivered at my address the same time I was 30 miles away at my daughters house.
The original case was found in the sellers favour because tracking showed it was delivered.
On appeal they issued me a refund saying they now believed it was stolen after delivery.
Where it is or who has it remains a mystery, but the one certain thing is that person is not me

I sell a fair bit on e.bay , and having been caught once with this simple delivery , I now ensure I list every item with my own RM specified .. all e.bay have done by creating this simple delivery is overloaded the evri system , yesterday I had a package delivered , only a tripod mount but it was left on the doorstep in full view of any one walking past , no attempt was made to ring the bell or knock the door . .. just dumped with a proof of delivery photo .. if they have time to take a bloody photo how hard is it to ring the bell .. and my Mrs was sat in the living room watching her so no excuses .. glowering review of total incompetence left on evri feedback but guaranteed they take no notice

Yes it’s true Steve . But up here it matters not one iota , virtually every delivery company uses the same large warehouse distribution centre just use different loading. bays

No we don't and yet here you are telling everybody how ebay is setting you up to be scammed.

But... if you read a bit further down the page you linked to:

More protections

When sending your items using the prepaid Simple Delivery postage label and within the stated handling time, you can:

Get full coverage for your items

From the moment your item is scanned by the courier until delivery confirmation, the full value of the item is covered against loss or damage during transit. Plus, you won’t have to worry about responding to buyer claims.

Remove neutral or negative feedback

For delivery-related issues, you can request to remove neutral or negative feedback through Seller Help.

Face no impact to your seller standards

Your seller performance standards and service metrics won’t be affected by late deliveries.

Read a little further and you'll find a link to their terms and conditions which states

b) Price Eligibility.

Items must have a ‘Buy it Now’ price, auction starting price or reserve price of £750 (inclusive of taxes) or less to be eligible.

This suggests to me that the item will be shipped using RMSD as £750 is the default protection. Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 are all covered up to £150. For lower cost items them perhaps Ervi will be an option too.

Then there is

7. Prohibited Items.

You agree not to send any prohibited or restricted items through the Services. More information about which items are prohibited or restricted for the Services may be found here. You agree that eBay and its third party carriers may decide if an item is eligible for the Services. You agree that if any item is found to be non-compliant with these terms or the Carrier Terms, eBay and its third party carriers will have no liability to you. eBay’s third party carriers may at their discretion, and in any manner they prefer: (a) destroy or refuse to accept the non-compliant item into their network; and (b) hand over the item to the relevant regulatory authorities or law enforcement. eBay’s third party carriers are authorised to open and inspect any package without notice for due diligence purposes.

If you follow the links you will find that the prohibited items are pretty much the same as Royal Mail prohibited items.

Then

12. Liability for Loss or Damage.

You remain responsible for any loss or damage to your item until it has been scanned into the carrier’s network. Once your item has been scanned into the carrier’s network and providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies, as well as the relevant Carrier Terms, your item will be covered for loss or damage during transit up to the sold item value on the eBay.co.uk site. This means you will retain your sales proceeds in relation to the item sent using the Simple Delivery label. The item will be in transit from the point it has been scanned into the carrier’s network until it has been marked as delivered by the carrier.

My guess that this is subject to the Price Eligibility above.

Regardless, I still wouldn't sell anything on eBay. I started my business on eBay and they screwed the sellers over at every opportunity. No way I'm going back .

You can choose whether to use Evri and/or RM. I turned off the Evri option and RM was used for the last two things I sold. But I didn't get any options to choose the service. It's confusing at best.

Sometimes I used to upgrade the delivery from whatever I had specified if the item sold for more than I thought it might. Now I can't. Ebay rules (not) OK.

Anyway, irrelevant. I've decided I won't be selling through ebay ever again. Being made to wait two days for payment after the item gets delivered is another issue.

I sold something last week, it wouldn’t let me set the dimensions and the box was slightly bigger than what they choose it should be. I sent it anyway using their label and it was delivered all ok. That was with Royal Mail.

Still hate having to use their simple delivery thing!!

Seems there is now no way to select RMSD! Could be a game-changer for future sales. :(

Well thats why i asked if ebay assumes insurance liability of rmsd themselves

They appear to do so, however there seems no option for next day pre-1pm delivery now. :(
Thats obviously not ideal but as a buyer i can normally accept 2-3 day delivery as long as the goods arrive safely

A lot of buyers are impatient and want new toys next day. :)

Yes you can .but you have to completely opt out of simple delivery

On asking I was told it was only possible by selecting to have a business account - and otherwise eBay seller protection is limited.

They appear to be changing the goalposts weekly .. sales / watchers/ buyers are definetly at an all time low .. this new charging buyers is the most stupid idea ever .. no seller in there right mind would have objected to paying a selling fee
