Hi all,

I sold a lens last night on eBay, value £600, I still haven't received payments yet which is ok for now, but what's bugging me is the buyer is from the U.S., or at least the account he's using is a US one. I have clearly stated I will only ship to GBR.

So, has anyone experienced this before?

This should be a simple case of shipping to a UK address only, if he asks for shipping overseas point out that this was a UK only auction and you won't ship overseas.
You can then offer the lens to the next highest bidder (Second Chance offer) or relist it. I believe there is an option when relisting it to avoid the final value fees etc as the acution sale was not completed, but it has been a while since I've relisted anything.
 
One other thing to watch out for Matt is that eBay recently introduced something called their Global Shipping Programme and stated that you had to opt OUT of it. The idea seems to be that the seller sends the item to a UK address and eBay send it abroad at no extra cost to you (if you believe that!), but the downside comes if there are returns as they don't want to be involved with that. I haven't sold anything recently, but apparently you have the choice of opting out of the GSP while you are listing the item. Possibly worth checking?
 
Thanks lads, I don't recall opting out of anything:( hopefully I will receive payment and a uk shipping address, if not then i will try and offer it to the next highest bidder.

You can cancel the sale if they want you to ship to US but if they don't agree to the cancellation and you haven't specifically excluded their country from the sale, then you could be stuck with the final value fees. When you list you can choose which buyers to exclude from the bidding, one exclusion option is buyers in countries you don't ship to.

Good luck with it, if the buyer ends up being awkward then you could end up with the FFV, so play it carefully.

I cleary stated in the listing options I will ship to GBR only so I think I'm protected on that one :)........hopefully

Better and much safer to sell camera gear on TP Classifieds, in my opinion.
 
Agree. I now only use the site for a. items of low value such as batteries or DVD's or b. collection in person

At the end of last year, I posted a thead here "Ebay scam?". If a buyer raises a dispute regarding a purchase, Paypal will attempt to "earmark" funds covering the refund amount. Since attempted fraudulant use of my card, I do not keep any surplus monies in my current account, so I could not understand why my card was being declined until I accessed my paypal account

If a claim is made regarding loss or damage in transit, certain countries have a ceiling on the amount they will pay. I believe the US standard postal system will only pay a UK sender £50 even if they are at fault which is why some ebay sellers refuse to ship to certain countries

another option could be a trade in deal, which is why I am holding onto my 550d until I can afford to upgrade in a couple of month's time
