ebay 'for' Canon batteries

Prepare yourselves for a rant.

In short it is £24 wasted on 'cheap' rubbish battery.

It is a 2400 mAh NP-E3 for my 1Ds II. You may have seen me complaining that the old (non-original) 1650 mAh ones hold too little charge. So I decided to "upgrade" one of them. Well the new one doesn't seal, unlike the old ones. The plastic quality is so poor, that it twists, bends, creeks and just doesn't stay in shape. So in a few years they went from being cheap just-as-bad-as-OEM replacement to rubbish. Well done!:thumbsdown: cheapskates

As it doesn't seal properly I can't trust it in £2000 or so kit in the awful weather we have. Ebay dispute :bat: to teach them?

If there is one thing about eBay I detest, it's the lax way they allow fake and faulty (mostly) Chinese knock off items that are poor quality at best, dangerous at worst. A seller should get 3 strikes for fake or dangerous goods and then be permanently banned. Problem is, the high volume Chinese sellers mostly responsible for these items make eBay a LOT of money.
 
Well as we're whining about eBay battery sellers I may as well recount my tale:

Got a battery from HK (benbeneshop)- while it will charge it was a poor fit in the body and the connections didn't quite reach so would not power on.
I complained and they said return it - all fine and well but they wanted it recorded - I paid £11.xx RMSD to HK was £12.xx so of course I said no, they then went on to offer $8 AU (£5 or so) as a partial refund, again I said no as that left me out of pocket and nothing to show for it.

I emailed back and forth and what annoyed me was that they kept saying the same thing, every day - no change until one day when someone was on holiday and they offers $5 instead!

Anyway eBay case opened, and I was just getting sick of the same thing every day so accepted the partial because in fairness they would take the battery back it was just uneconomical to do so.

I complained to eBay - they said talk to the seller!! Like I hadn't been already, so in essence washed their hands of the issue.

The seller then went on to say that Paypal would not let them issue a partial refund unless the case was closed and as I had accepted the offer in the case it seemed reasonable so I did.

No refund, then three days later still no refund - I contact eBay they have (to this day) completely ignored my email!

I leave negative feedback - the seller responds in all but direct words calling me a liar, they then go on to say I can have the partial refund if I change my feedback to positive and they will not leave negative for me - I pointed out that due to eBay bias they cannot leave negative for me, but agreed (only to stop their bleeding emails now).

They issue the partial refund, I change to neutral as I said I would - they were never getting positive out of me and I told them that before they refunded.

They still have not left feedback for me, but at least have stopped bugging me.

On the up side once I was sure they didn't want the battery back I took a look to repairing it myself, unscrewed the end and put it back better and it works fine now :)

The moral to this verbose tale is that eBay will shaft the private seller, but protect the ones that make them money - but Karma at least can balance things out...
 
I contacted them explaining the problem, let's see what the response will be.

I am coming to a conclusion that most of the non-branded stuff is riddled with serious problems. This only worked out well with the eyecup for 1Ds - it was slightly too large so now I can't lose it unlike the original. But then the rubber is hard as rock! Isn't that just sickening!
 
I think the moral of the story most of the time is "Buy Cheap Buy Twice"
I fully understand we all want a bargain, and indeed there bargains to be had, but the problem with batteries is what would we all do, if the battery overheated in our expensive camera and caused that to become faulty.

I disagree:
* Canon didn't make large capacity batteries for old 1-series. The stuff was back from the film days
* £24 is not cheap for 10x AA batts in a plastic insert. Most NPE3s are well under £20
* the old knock off stuff in my bag doesn't have any of these issues (except the cells are only 1650mAh just like canon joke)
 
Right, are there any properly made NP-E3s out there? I need 2400mAh min, 2900 would be perfect.

1DsII needs to serve at least till Christmas, and probably past Focus'13 with potentially higher workloads.
