Hi,

Just asking what would the fees be on £1650 of computer equipment? I have been on a few sites and they all add up different.

It's a buy now price.

Thanks.

Build the add but don't list it, it will tell you how much it costs just before submitting listing.
Then i think PayPal take 3% at end of sale.

I think eBay take 10% and paypal takes 3.4% but as Gr8Shot said, you can start a new listing and just enter your BIN price to see what the fees will be.

Ian.

Looks like the fees on there are out of date.

ebay
BIN listing fee £0.40
Final value fee £75

Paypal (3.4%+£0.20)
£56.30

Total £131.70

I don't get what's out of date, it seems to agree with your figures.

I comes up with a different figure when I do it, with an insertion fee of £0.35, hence my thought that it was out of date. Oh well at least it proves my calcs were right.

£131.70 for one item with next to no work involved , I can't imagine how much money must go into ebays bank account every second

They do provide a marketplace that no one else can.

They also have a way to go to get to auction house charges where both buyer and seller pay fees.

An auction house could make 40% on an item.

For example
For example, a saleroom may charge 15% on the first £500, and 12.5% thereafter. This means for an item that sells at £600, you would pay £75 commission on the first £500 (15%) and an additional £12.50 (12.5%) on the remaining £100 - a total of £87.50.

The following table shows some example vendor's commission rates charged by auction houses:

Hammer Price Commission
Up to £500 15%
£501 - £1,000 12.5%
£1,000 - £59,999 10%
£ 60,000 - £149,999 8%
£ 150,000 - £299,999 7%
£ 300,000 - £599,999 5%
£ 600,000 - £1,499,999 4%
There may be other charges to consider, such as insurance fees (which will need to be paid whether the item is successfully sold or not) and illustration fees. If you decide to withdraw the lot before the sale, there will be a withdrawal charge to pay.

There will be an additional 17.5% VAT charge payable on all fees and commissions.

That's true, but an auction house might sell 1000 items in a day, twice a week

Imagine how many ebay sell in a minute worldwide

I wish I'd thought of it, a business generating billions with no stock , premises or large payroll

The hard part would be getting it off the ground at the start. Then boom, set for life retire early!
