Sorry chaps, couldn't resist commenting on an Ebay sale I'm running at the moment. My 1D is up for sale (won't link to it), and stated quite clearly about my thoughts on shipping, i.e. won't ship outside of UK.

I got this Ebay message this morning:

"Hello Seller.
Thanks for your reply.am glad to read from you could you let me know your final price for the item including the shipping cost to
Lagos,Nigeria,23401 via Royal Mail international Signal for.cost i will be send the payment out via PayPal so i will be glad if you can get back to me with the total calculation for the item including the shipping also get back to me with your PayPal email address for the payment or you send an email to my address (grovesje01@uymail.com) so soon as you get back to me i will send out the payment ASAP.
Thanks, hope to read from you soonest.
James Groves."

Couldn't resist replying with the following:

"My thanks for your interest in my camera.
I have checked today and found that the shipping
costs to Nigeria will need to include collection
by armed courier, courier flight to Nigeria,
bribery costs to allow use of automatic weapons
within your country, followed by local taxes. As
such, total shipping costs will be £25200.
Please advise if you find this acceptable."

I couldn't work out whether to laugh or cry at this chap. Yes it was amusing, but after all, it was a complete and utter waste of both of our time.

Well youtube can ban the UK from seeing music videos - why on earth eBay and the world just don't ban Nigeria from the Internet is beyond me.

Still got to hand to to this guy

Nice reply, especially like the part about the armed guards!

That skype conversation is brilliant too lol! :)

i had a the same kinda thing happen to me a few months back, i own a hotel and a nice chap from Nigeria emailed to ask if he could book a room for 12 of his pals, he would send me a cheque and i would deduct my costs and send back the balance.... i think i quoted the guy about £25,000 knowing it was a scam, but he did actually send a cheque, he even emailed to see if i had recived it .... needless to say it went into the bin.. you have to be pretty careful mind !!

Because people in Nigeria are not all like that. I'd like to see all idiots banned from the internet.

i still have one lady still awaiting her package to nigeria that she supposedly 'paid' for via paypal and that it has been deducted from her account.

I told her its already sent etc. I wonder how long I'll keep getting emails about it?? :D

He was going to pay by Paypal - where's the problem? Why do you assume the guy is a criminal just because many are in Nigeria? And now you might have lost your best bidder by insulting him

I take it that you are joking?
As it happens, I was quite explicit in the ad in stating where I'd be willing to post to. So you're correct he might not be a criminal, but that does mean he can't be bothered to pay the slightest attention to the sellers terms, in which case, I think I'm well within my rights to not deal with him.

Yes, 'pay' by PayPal - receive an email saying the funds have cleared and if you click on the link in the email it has, but in reality all they've done is sent an email themselves and there is nowt in your actual PayPal account

Well, Mr "I'm from Lagos" came back earlier today suggesting that he'd be happy to pay £252 for shipping.

So, looks like we can have some fun. Anyone got some good suggestions?
