Hi all,

In need of a little advice here... I'm selling a used Fujifilm X-T100 on ebay, reserve price £280, but I'll accept offers at or over £300 as that is the current going rate for a used entry level Fuji body only camera, I may be slightly undervaluing it, but not by much.

I've logged into Ebay today to check the progress, I've received an offer of £600, so £200-£300 above the current average price, along with the below message from a buyer located in the US...

"Please kindly accept my offer or get back to me with your own counter offer so that i can made the payment as soon as possible and i want the item posted to my cousin address in UK and make sure you read my profile for you to email me asap"

Something doesn't seem right here and I'm inclined to decline the offer, anyone able to shed any light on what might be going on here before I decline?

Regards

Various ways.
For one the account could be hacked hence why they want you to send to the UK when buying with a US based account. when the original owner sees an unauthorised payment they'll charge it back through their banks.

If they paying with Paypal and get you to send to a different address, they simply claim non receipt and unless you can prove delivery to the address registered with Paypal they get their money back.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. If it's feels too good to be true, it usually is. A scammer doesn't care what they offer you if they know they're not actually going to be paying that. Nobody else would be offering you 2 x the going price.

Thanks, very insightful.

Regarding offering 2x the going rate, that is actually what initially made me suspicious, I'm guessing they prey on peoples greed.

Report it to Ebay to help them crack down on scammers.

make sure you go into preferences and check you have opted out of the global shipping program
that stops anyone from outside of the uk buying

Thanks, I didn't know that was an option.

Hmmm this is an obvious scam , but you have sussed it . Report buyer and just carry on .i wouldn’t remove it from global sales as you never know .never had a problem with selling stuff via that .
In around 20 years of selling on e.bay I’ve only been caught out once and that was for a 99p item claim of not delivered .everything goes by tracked RM These days

100% scam. Well done for not falling for it. So many scummy people out there!

Decline it, otherwise it wont end well.

What that scam is ...when you accept the offer you will get a fake email from PayPal saying payment has been made but can't be released to you until tracking number is provided, or something to that affect . I've had a few of these and usually use it as an opportunity to entertain myself by playing around with them for a few days when I'm bored . I like them to think they have got me and you'll see the excitement levels in their messages increase lol
