As the heading is there a link to any REALLY 'easy to understand', at a glance guide, pictures mainly guide so I can take better shots and in turn crop them better.

The rule of thirds is probably the easiest guide, but I stress "guide". What helped me most was just critically looking at images (not just photographs) which I found pleasing. The more you look at such images, the easier it becomes to relate your subject with a composition which just works. (Of course all my images are now compositionally perfect .............yeah right )

Some articles here http://ronbigelow.com/articles/articles.htm although they may not be as easy as you want. Unfortunately composition, like lots of things, needs a bit of thought. After a while you start seeing "photographically" and begin to adjust the composition automatically.
It may be worthwhile considering just 1 or 2 aspects and concentrating on those and then add more elements.

Thank you so much each of you for giving me lots to read

I had Googled but came up with information overload :cuckoo:

I hope I can get some better thought out shots now especially as I have just ordered a new camera and my wife is saying you had better make a good job now ----- with taking photographs

While there are a couple of basics like rule of thirds there are also many other things that can be considered. I don't think any of them are difficult to understand and just takes a couple of hours looking through a good composition book such as Photographers Eye.

Covers alot of areas and is more about things you may not had thought about that help to make a good photo rather than anything particularly difficult.

Thanks Kerley.

And thanks skippy and indeed the f-arting and sex make interesting points
