I am planning to head to Eastbourne next weekend for the airshow, mainly to see the Vulcan flying on one of its last flights. Never seen it in the past!
I am doing some pre planning as to where is best to take photos. The beach in the town seems to be very crowded so and I am thinking of heading to Beachy Head. What is your experience people? Does it offer good opportunities for photos?

Also I am wondering which lens to use. I recently got a Tamron 150-600 (which I am not really used to its weight and FL) or take my Nikon 70-200mm VRII+TC20 which I am more comfortable with.

Hopefully the weather stays nice and sunny!

I too have the same dilemma for the Eastbourne air show ,Beachy head is my wifes suggestion as well. Can't make up my mind to take the AFS-80-400mm Nikon lens or the Sigma 70-200 lens which is f2.4 against f4.5-5.6. May go there tomorrow to check it out.
Not done an airshow before so Yiannis if you see an idiot with a Nikon D800 and a stupid great long lens it may well be me so do meet up and have a chat if possible. I could stick the big lens on my D300 for a bit more reach

Not sure if it's any help to you both, but I found at Southport Air show (which I was on the beach for) my 70-200 with a 1.4TC (on occasions) was perfectly suited - a previous year I took my 300 prime and found I couldn't get some of the shots I was after, so opted the following year for the 70-200 and didn't regret it...

Yes thanks andy think I may well take both tomorrow for a test run

Hi guys,

I'm hopefully going on Saturday, I was planning to go to beachy head as when the aircraft do fly past there its a very unique background.

Lens wise, just take the longest lens you have!

If I make it, I'll be the one swinging a 500mm about with Bremont Horsemen stickers on the Hood.

Harry.

Is Beachy Head crowded ? We parked in Eastbourne last year and it took about 2 hours to drive a mile when leaving, it was chaotic to say the least

We are going to give Herne Bay a tryout on the Saturday, but like the op were looking for a vantage point just out of town (if anyone can recommend one ?), I think the traffic will be bad at any of this weekend's events.

It looks like we are going with the train after all and a couple of friends are reluctant to go to Beachy head :(
So most probably I will stick in town seafront and hopefully I will find a vantage point where I can shoot freely without knocking on peoples' heads with the Tammy :)
