I'm a northerner, and know very little about the South.
I've moved to near Edenbridge for a few weeks, and wondered if anyone had any ideas for good locations nearby.
I am planning to visit Hever Castle, and somewhere on the south coast, but any good landscape location ideas within an hours drive would be greatly appreciated!

Leeds castle is a must, it's about an hours drive but it has to be one of the great castles or palace I think it actually was, Head into Sevenoaks and you can pick up knowle park and if you are lucky you will catch sight of some deer.

On to Tunbridge Wells and you can pick up the start of Ashdown forest which is a great place to get some landscapes, there used to be devil worshipers and other such fruit loops hanging around down there back in the 80s sacrificing animals.. Nice. Circle round the forest when done head onto pembury and bewl water is a really good photo opportunity especially early morning with the dew above the lake.

Bit further on but, battle toward Hastings is good, rye has a nature reserve and a nice photogenic harbour and cambersands well that is a big must, and if you end up out that way then Dungeness is a place you can not miss for some of the best landscapes and nature shots.

Much further on still you have Dover castle but then if you have gone that far on you may as well go n a booze trip to Calais.

Kent and Sussex are great places to visit and photograph.

Thats some good quality info right there! Thank you very much. I think I remember Leeds Castle being signed from the road to Dover from many of my trips across the channel. I will definitely try to check it out.
Dungeness and Cambersands sound like they will be worth a visit too. Might try for some sunrise shots along the coast.
Again, thanks very much for taking the time to reply!

If you do go to Dungeness the make sure you photograph the yellow house, it's a common photo from there buts done right it can look very good, cambersands is my place of inspiration walking up and down the sand dunes, photographing them from every angle, a great place to visit.

Kent and Sussex can be great places to visit and there are many places worth a visit, Yalding is another place to get some great river scenes and wildlife, lots of photo chances for kingfishers down there. There are lots more places but you probably will not have the time.

Don't forget the River Eden which is also a Local Wildlife Site

Lamberhurst is just up from bewl water too, you can pick up hawk hurst on he way through which is a nice little old fashioned village looks a little spooky at night and like something out of the wicker man, if you do get a chance to see it then check out he old church "now fireplace shop" at night it looks fantastic.

Then if you end up round that area, you may aswell carry on up the A21 to Chiselhurst to see the caves. You are gonna need longer than a few weeks

Jeez, sounds like there's a bit too much to do.
Had a trip out to Bough Beech reservoir and Chiddingstone Castle this evening after work.
I definitely want to make a trip to Dungeness, having looked into that, it looks a real interesting place to visit.
I'm thinking of doing a little photo project on Oast Houses, having seen a few already. So I'll be trying to find some of those in picturesque settings too. Quite fancy lighting one up at night for a crack at some star trails.
I think I will head east of Tunbridge Wells/Tonbridge tomorrow and investigate some of the places mentioned.
Thanks again for your help guys, it really is appreciated!
