Hi. is there an easy way to create a diptych out of two images with a border around the whole picture in photoshop without doing it the long way of calculating the width and size that the two images you will use, "guessing" the amount of pixels i wish to attain more for room for a border and just copy and paste the images on the new custom sized canvas?

is this the only way to do it?

example of what i am trying to achieve in an easier manner

Yep I do same as James says.
When you get to the point of having the bigger black canvas drop the first photo on it "if the images are different sizes use the largest first.I then create a new guide and place it at the top where you want the images to stop leaving a border, you can then drag the images to this and they will snap to it.
Do the same at the bottom and the sides. If the images are over the lines you can then transform and crop if needed.
Sounds hard but it is pretty quick when you've done it once.

There are also plenty of free templates out there, just have a google.

Like your montage "looks great"
Did you use the above info or do it your own way.
